Club America's Insane Liga MX Title Win Included A Goalie Scoring
Down 1-0 with a few minutes left in regulation, Club América looked like the runners-up to Cruz Azul for the Liga MX Clausura title. In those last minutes, though, Club América was able to send the game into extra time and eventually come up with their 11th title by winning in penalties. Oh, and Club América was also a man down. How the hell did they pull it off?
Let's start with the "man down" part. Only 14 minutes into the game, Club América's Jesus Molina was sent off for being the last defender in Pablo Barrera's way and knocking him down. Five minutes later, Cruz Azul scored for a 1-0 lead. With ten men and an early deficit, it looked bleak for Club América.
Fast-forward to the 88th minute, where great things started happening to Club América. Defender Aquivaldo Mosquera headed in a goal to cut his team's aggregate deficit to one.
Then, with literally seconds left in injury time, Club América goalie Moisés Muñoz committed some goalie-on-goalie crime by heading a ball off a corner kick that was deflected by a Cruz Azul defender, enough to put it past keeper Jesus Corona.
With the aggregate score now 2-2, and no goals in extra time, the match was decided on penalties. From here, you can watch the video.
So, now you know why this guy was so happy.
