This evening, Dee Gordon opened the Miami Marlins’ first game since José Fernández died in a boating crash with a big leadoff dinger. He was overcome with emotion as he crossed the plate and sobbed into the shoulders of a number of his teammates.

The homer came after Gordon lined up batting right as a tribute to Fernández for one pitch.
