Minor League Teams Get Straight To The Fightin'
Yesterday’s game between the Corpus Christi Hooks and the Frisco RoughRiders—the Double A affiliates of the Houston Astros and Texas Rangers, respectively—got out of hand in a damn hurry.
The game wasn’t even two innings old when Hooks designated hitter Danry Vasquez decided it was time for a brawl. After being hit on the leg by a pitch from starter Yohander Mendez, Vazquez sprinted to the mound and wrestled Mendez to the ground.
The ensuing brawl was pretty heated, and resulted in three ejections. At the 31-second mark in the video above, you can see RoughRiders pitching coach Brian Shouse being yanked out of the pile by Hooks outfielder Roman Laureano, who is then surrounded by a large group of Frisco players.
After the game, nobody was able to offer an explanation as to why Vasquez charged the mound despite Mendez’s wild pitch appearing to be accidental. Maybe he just wasn’t in the mood to play a baseball game that day.
