Sideline Reporter Gets Pretty Racist On Barstool Sports Broadcast (UPDATE)
Fox Sports Florida’s sideline reporter for Tampa Bay Rays and Orlando Magic broadcasts, Emily Austen, went on Barstool Sports’s daily Rundown show on Thursday, and proceeded to make a number of racist and anti-Semitic jokes. The Rundown, which was broadcast live on Facebook Live instead of being recorded like normal, then disappeared from Barstool’s Facebook page.
On the 35-minute long broadcast, Austen said a number of terrible things that you can watch above. She called Kevin Love a “little bitch” multiple times, said she “didn’t even know that Mexicans were that smart,” talked about how the “Chinese guy is always the smartest guy in math class,” and after one of the gibbering morons next to her said Jews were stingy, she told stories about “the way I used to talk to the Jews in Boca” when she was a waitress.
At some point after the video was broadcast on Facebook, it was deleted. In a post on Barstool, they wrote “we (Hank probably) somehow deleted the video which was supposed to be edited for the actual show today.” But somebody saved and uploaded the broadcast to Vimeo, and a link to it eventually blew up on r/NBA.
The suspicious deletion of a video in which a guest makes racist comments is currently roiling the Barstool Sports subreddit, which I swear to you is real and the worst place on the internet.
Emily Austen’s agent didn’t return a request for comment.
Update (9:28 a.m.): Fox Sports Florida senior vice-president Steve Tello sent along the following statement:
We were made aware that Emily Austen appeared in a social media video unaffiliated with FOX Sports in which she made insensitive and derogatory comments. She was not speaking on behalf of FOX Sports, nor do we condone any of the statements she made in the video. Emily has been advised that her comments were unacceptable, and she is not scheduled to appear on any upcoming FOX Sports Florida or FOX Sports Sun broadcasts.
