3. Or, they could cut AJ Feeley, who is perfectly useless. There's a thought! Nevermind that carrying 4 QB's may be viable since they don't need a "kicking specialist."
@Chris Hanson's Axe: Right, but then Vick still could not be the third-stringer, because then if he came in the game neither McNabb nor Kolb could return.
But, yeah, I tend to agree that just putting Kolb in the "emergency slot" in case both McNabb and Vick went down would be just fine.
@Chris Hanson's Axe: I'm assuming that Pickett wasn't listed at the QB on the roster in order to play special teams. If the Eagles want a 3rd QB, then the rules Drew mentioned apply: if he enters, 2 QB's above him can't reenter the game.
The problem with having Vick as an "unofficial" 3rd QB who plays on Special Teams or runs certain offensive plays is that the Eagles will have to cut someone who is probably a better player than Vick at a specific position. That may mean not having a good returner (oh f--k, been there before) or a competent coverage guy on punts or kickoffs.
@Quake 'n' Shake: We've got plenty of returners. Maclin, Demps, DeSean Jackson, possibly even Booker. Hell, I wouldn't mind putting Vick back there if he wanted to.
I haven't done a lot of research into this but everything I've seen says that Cody Pickett was listed as a QB all season, yet played mostly on special teams until Dorsey and Smith got hurt.
Hey, we may be obnoxiously devoted meatheads who love to bitch about the best quarterback this team has ever had, and we may give ourselves ulcers screaming at our coach's baffling clock management, and we may beat the shit out of opposing team's fans, and we may be setting ourselves up for yet another disappointing season, but... I forgot where I was going with this.
Reid coaching the Eagles is tough on Eagles fans. There's no doubt in my mind that without him, they would not have been so consistently good these past 10 years. He's got them to a point that they are a legitimate Super Bowl contender almost every year. However, his flaws as a head coach are juuuuusssst enough to keep them from actually winning one.
He wins games by having better talent on the field. When the talent is relatively even, he's at risk of being thoroughly outcoached. Hence all those NFC Championship losses. Think about it... his only NFC Championship Game victory came at the expense of Jim Mora, Jr.
Drew should have a special reason to hate the Eagles -- Reid taught Childress all he knows about bad game planning. I'm pretty convinced McNabb would have won an SB by now if Reid wasn't his coach.
The Eagles have a nasty pair of safeties in Quintin Mikell and Sean Jones. Brian Dawkins is old and slow. If Bobby Big Wheel could get his nose out of his books on tort law, maybe he would notice that.

@MarkKelsosMigraine: You might be surprised to know this judging by the number of comments I make, but the majority of my day does not involve commenting on Deadspin.

How did the 49ers get to put 3rd stringer Cody Pickett onto special teams plays?

Sucks for PETA. I'll be spending the next 18 weeks posting pictures of abused eagles.
