BECAUSE THEY'RE ALL GUILTY. If they didn't do PEDs themselves their teammates did. Their teammates that helped them win games. Their teammates that helped them win championships. Their teammates that helped them get that multi-million dollar extension. Why would they take a stand now when they had every chance to do so over the past 15 years and instead just sat there and reaped the benefits.

I didn't show up for their farewells in a display of support
That's the problem; this press conference wasn't a farewell.
Journalism is an individualistic job. A person works for a newspaper or radio station or TV station but anyone can be fired at any time.
These guys are on a team. They're multi-millionaires, but they don't control who's on the team, who's off the team, and who signs a long-term contract with the team. They showed up because, whether they like it or not, Rodriguez is their teammate and they're stuck with him for the next several seasons. Once they're off the team, or Rodriguez leaves the team, then they can say they don't like him, or that he's a cheater, or whatever. Until them, they have to show support.

Journalism is an individualistic job.
That's not true. Reporters have to work with editors, copy editors, etc. who need to be able to count on them to portray the facts as they are. Just because the reporter's name is the only one on the byline doesn't mean they're the only ones taking the hit if they are caught making stuff up.
But Pearlman is spewing some bullshit by saying that journalists didn't stand by Jayson Blair. Maybe after all his misdeeds came to light, they didn't. But there were countless people, dating back to the deans in Maryland's J-school, who fiercely defended him when any number of questions were being asked about his accuracy.

Alex: "Hi, my name is Alex and I'm a roidaholic."
Everyone: "Hi, Alex."
Jeter: Is there any more coffee?"

I wanted a refund after seeing Shattered Glass too.
