That's when [Marlins manager Fredi] Gonzalez intervened and asked the media to leave, but the spat continued.
"Show you up on the field? All I wanted to do out there was make you happy," said Uggla, "You know I can't just let ground balls past me because you love turning the double play."
Ramirez, now in tears, said, "When we're alone, you have no problem showing me you care, but as soon as we're on that field, in front of the crowd, you act like a different person!"
"You think I WANT to hide like this," said Uggla, "You think this doesn't eat me up? That I like pretending to be mister macho baseball man out there? I don't have a choice! The only thing I can do is offer you my love and hope that you'll accept me for who I am."
"I love you, Dan," sobbed the shortstop, "And I don't care who knows. I want us to be a family. I want you to be a part of my life and of my heart. I don't care about turning double plays or hitting for the cycle -- all I care about is knowing that you'll be waiting in that locker room for me when the game is over."
As the two cradled each other's heads in their arms, Gonzalez quietly ushered the stunned media out of the locker room.
Tomorrow the Marlins are on the road, once again, versus the Braves in a 7:10pm start.
