Unfortunately, like Don Imus a few years back, he may have gone too far.

On his radio show at Cincinnati's WLW recently, Cunningham latched onto the subject of the University of Cincinnati men's basketball team. Here we go.

"How many illegitimate children does the UC men's basketball team have? I heard it's more than a half dozen ... So there's some hangin' and bangin' going on at the Shoemaker Center after the game. ... They're poppin' those things out like cherry pits out of one's mouth."

You may remember Cunningham from that John McCain rally last year, when he referred to the Democratic Presidential nominee as "Barack HUSSEIN Obama." Media Matters and a handful of other outlets have demanded his head on a plate, naturally, but it will be interesting to see if this thing gains traction beyond that. If it doesn't, Don Imus has a bone to pick, doesn't he?

Oh, and WLW has been the flagship station for University of Cincinnati sports since 1992. Which should play no part in this controversy at all.

<![CDATA[The Imus Fallout: The Newly Christened Adam Jones Takes Umbrage]]>
Predictably, Don Imus' comments yesterday about Adam "Ex-Pac" Jones have triggered more debate about the old man's motivations: Has he finally lost it? Will he be fired? Is he really just a hood-wearing racist hiding behind a shock jock's microphone? All legitimate questions.

Imus said the comments were "sarcastic" and reflective of how black men are treated by police officers. When you listen to the audio again...maybe that makes sense. But in that context, it's way too easy to misinterpret.

And Adam Jones, who recently exorcised the Pacman demon from his body to take one footstep toward model citizenry, was obviously floored by the Imus remarks. He tells the Dallas Morning News:

"I'm truly upset about the comments. Obviously Mr. Imus has problems with African-Americans. I'm upset, and I hope the station he works for handles it accordingly. I will pray for him."

And, of course, Al Sharpton is looking into this matter and will determine the appropriate amount of ire people should be filled with after this latest incident.

Prediction? Imus is gone. Again.

<![CDATA[Don Imus: Still Not Being Too Friendly To The Black Folk]]>
Regardless of where you sit on the whole Imus/"nappy-headed ho" spectrum, it was pretty apparent that Imus did at least acknowledge how something like that could be considered offensive. Sure. That's his job: Be an old hillbilly crank and sometimes be the voice of the ignorant truth, for whatever purpose that serves.

He did end up losing his job over it and it was mostly do to the perception that his commentary on the Rutgers' women's basketball team was more racist than comical. So, once again, Don Imus has seemingly thrust himself upon the frontline of that losing battle after he made this remark about Adam "Don't Call me Pacman" Jones this morning.

Newsreader Warner Wolf: ...[H]e's been arrested six times since being drafted by Tennesse in 2005...

IMUS: What color is he?

Warner Wolf: ...He's African-American

IMUS: Well. There you go. Now we know.

When you listen to the full audio, you can hear Warner Wolf (This was originally attributed to Charles McCord plenty of readers pointed out that it was actually Mr. Wolf. Thanks for that. Warner Wolf most likely does not.)hesitation, knowing where Imus was headed, then after it, almost give an audible sigh that indicates, "Shit...here we go again."

We'll see how this one plays out.

<![CDATA[Don Imus Just Can't Quit You]]> If you prefer your radio hosts with faces like a 90-year-old saddle, then it's time to rejoice: Don Imus is back on the air! Was it really only eight months ago that the infamous "nappy-headed hos" comment about the Rutgers women's basketball team sent the nation into a tither? Well, he's back, on WABC-AM, with a new, diverse cast of sidekicks, including a black woman!

Imus apologized Monday again to the players. "I will never say anything in my lifetime that will make any of these young women at Rutgers regret or feel foolish that they accepted my apology and forgave me," he said. "And no one else will say anything else on my program that will make anyone think that I didn't deserve a second chance." While saying he had learned his lesson, he added — to applause from the live audience at Manhattan's Town Hall: "The program is not going to change."

Listening to Don Imus is what I suppose it would be like to poke Wilford Brimley with a stick. Assorted grumbling, then a story about how phone calls once cost a nickel. But all that becomes quickly tiresome, doesn't it? Well, if he's your cup of tea, now you can go nuts!

Dennis Miller and Don Imus, both with their own shows. This truly is the Golden Age of radio.

<![CDATA[More Fun On The Imus Apology Tour]]>

Of all the reaction to Don Imus' unfortunate verbal stylings recently, our favorite so far has to be from Cal professor Harry Edwards, who said "He touched every hot rail." Indeed, Imus scored that rare insult trifecta that you rarely hear on talk radio, as he degraded women, blacks and people with tattoos all in one sentence. Plus, when you consider that he said that the Rutgers team reminded him of the Toronto Raptors, you could call it a four-in-one (Anthony Parker: How the hell did I get dragged into the mess?).

Anyway, Imus was suspended for two weeks by MSNBC and CBS radio, as his employers try to pick through the rubble of the "nappy-haired hos" remark that is still reverberating, well, everywhere. On Monday Imus appeared on Al Sharpton's radio show, which is always fun.

Imus accused the minister of lacking courage for refusing an invitation to appear on "Imus in the Morning." Sharpton said he couldn't tell people not to watch the show and then appear on it. "It's not about courage," he said. MSNBC, which telecasts the radio show, said Imus' expressions of regret and embarrassment, coupled with his stated dedication to changing the show's discourse, made it believe suspension was the appropriate response. "Our future relationship with Imus is contingent on his ability to live up to his word," the network said late Monday.

Well, as much as he'd like to take them back, Imus' comments are now waves in space, meaning that eventually everyone in the galaxy is going to get pissed.

By the way, remember Imus' advice to John Kerry after Kerry's infamous botched joke in October of 2006? We believe Imus told Kerry to "stop talking and get on your bike." Good advice?

<![CDATA[Who's Sorry Now? Old Leatherface Edition]]> Does WFAN have an ombudsman? Because someone needs to tell the network to place Don Imus in a block of ice and shove him toward Greenland, where he can be unfrozen sometime in the future when they figure out a cure for old. Why was Imus racially taunting the Rutgers basketball team again? Not even he knows.

"Here's what I've learned: that you can't make fun of everybody, because some people don't deserve it," he said on his nationally syndicated radio show Monday morning. "And because the climate on this program has been what it's been for 30 years doesn't mean it's going to be what it's been for the next five years or whatever."

Of course Imus said all of this in a gravelly drawl that only cattle can understand. Here's some other fun Imus facts that we just learned: He once called sports columnist Bill Rhoden a "New York Times quota hire"; referred to PBS anchor Gwen Ifill as a "cleaning lady"; and often refers to Arabs as "ragheads."
