Sports memorabilia blogger Andrew Long certainly thought so. So he met up with Griffin at an organized autograph session and presented him with a delicious sandwich. Griffin graciously signed both halves and then Long devoured one, believing that Blake's lifeforce, transferred via bread, will bestow upon him mysterious rebounding abilities and a slightly less-awkward way with the ladies. (That totally works. I saw it in "District 9.") The other half is now on eBay, so if you want to believe, go right ahead and pay legal tender for an autographed sandwich. Extra mustard not included.

One warning though: Griffin now plays for the Los Angeles Clippers, so you would have to assume that their energy would transfer as well. I don't envy the crippling intestinal disorder sure to await anyone who take a bite out of that thing.

<![CDATA[Mark Madsen Caught In A Web Of Cyber Intrigue]]> You may have seen the item on a man who hacked markmadsen.com in order to sell it to White Vanilla himself. But it's worth delving into it to debate just what is the most insane part of this story.

Daniel Goncalves of north Jersey hacked into the account of one of the owners of the domain name, and shifted ownership to himself. He then put the URL up on eBay, where it was purchased by Madsen himself for more than $100k.

Goncalves was arrested and charged with theft, identity theft, and computer theft — that's the theft triple crown if you're keeping score. But more interesting to me is that I can't identify which part of this whole charade is the most ludicrous:

1. Someone was apparently squatting on the markmasden.com URL before any of this?

2. Someone thought it was worth their while to hack markmadsen.com?

3. Someone thought it was a good idea to put markmadsen.com on eBay?

4. Mark Madsen was searching for himself on eBay?

5. Markmadsen.com is worth more than $100,000?

Goncalves has clearly never heard the phrase "may as well be hung for a sheep as a lamb." In NBA domain names terms, it means if you're going to steal a website, there's about 300 players whose sites would be more valuable.

<![CDATA[Someone Forgot To Tell This Owner His Soccer Team Was Up For Sale On eBay]]> When the owner of an English soccer team wanted to sell the franchise, he turned to a US firm to set up the deal. When that firm wanted to locate a buyer, they turned to...eBay? *recordscratch.wav*

The Tranmere Rovers play in League One, which makes them the equivalent of a AA baseball team. Fittingly, they appear to have hired a minor-league corporation, Dornoch Capital. Dornoch made sure that potential buyers would have years of managerial and executive experience, or at least a 28k modem.

We were appalled," [Tranmere owner Peter] Johnson told BBC Radio Merseyside.

"It's totally inappropriate. We immediately e-mailed them and said 'take it off right away'."

Johnson added: "You can imagine how shocked we were to wake up this morning to find out we were on eBay."

The bidding was opened at $10 million (with free shipping!). There were no bidders.

It could have been worse. It could have been up on craigslist.

<![CDATA[Even LeBron's High School Keepsakes Are Worth A Fortune]]> Every high school phenom has a scrapbook of yellowing newspaper clips in his attic, readily available for reminiscing about the glory days. It's unusual, though, for someone else to collect those mementos and sell them for $250,000 on eBay.

But then, LeBron James is kingly, and we know how people react around royalty. They try to auction off eight scrapbooks stuffed with keepsakes from his high school career: laminated newspaper clippings, e-mails to the Akron Beacon Journal begging for more King James coverage, scraggly joints from a local hotel room.

A quarter of a million buckaroos does sound like some serious cash, especially in this economy, especially for a set of scrapbooks. Even the auctioneer understands. Trust him. This is a collectible for the grandchildren. After all, they won't know what a newspaper looks like.

ASK YOURSELF THIS QUESTION. "IF ONE OF THESE EXISTED COVERING MICHAEL JORDAN, BILL RUSSEL, LARRY BIRD, OR KAREEM JABBAR, WHAT WOULD IT BE WORTH?"

Fair point, but it's also worth it for the soon-to-be owner to secure some insurance on the scrapbooks while he's at it. You never know when one of LeBron's handlers will try to confiscate them.

<![CDATA[And That's The Way It Is]]> Got an image you'd like to see in here first thing in the morning? Send it to tips@deadspin.com. Subject: Morning crap

Walter Cronkite died last night. The CBS frontman wasn't much of a sportscaster, but he did enjoy his yachting, as evidenced by this trading card, up for auction on eBay:

This auction is for the 1977-79 Yachting Walter Cronkite Sportscaster card. This is extremely rare as it is part of the high numbered series. The card is printed on a thin cardboard stock paper. This is a nice card from the large set that was released during the years of 1977 to 1980. There was a total of 2184 sportscaster cards in the set which was released in 91 separate packs. The set was issued by Editions Rencontre S.A. Lausanne and 24 different sports are featured on the cards. These cards are also known as Sportscaster Digest Cards. The card backs of all of these cards have a complete story and interesting facts about the subject. This is the ENGLISH version of the card. Sportscaster cards were also printed in other countries and printed in different languages. The measurement of the card is approximately 4.75 x 6.50 inches and should be nice for framing if desired.

It's a collector's item now more than ever.

*****

Good Saturday morning. This happened last night, if you didn't know, so make sure you lock in today.

<![CDATA[This Is What A Boston College Education Is Worth]]> Before beginning, I should reiterate that B.J. Raji does not smoke pot. Of course, if he did fill his head with sweet smoke that might explain why he can't spell his own school's war cry.

Fans of first-round draft pick collectibles can head over to eBay right now and bid on an "authentic" scrawling, allegedly made by the former Boston College standout and new Green Bay Packer. There are just a couple of issues with it that either make it more or less valuable depending on your point of view. He didn't sign his name, but instead wrote "Soar Eagles" in tribute to his alma mater. Oh, and he also spelled "Soar" wrong. Oops.

So either it's a clever inside joke about the B.C. football team or B.C.'s academic support unit is the punchline. Either way, go Jesuits! Or is Jesus-suits?

<![CDATA[The Party Zamboni Is Here]]> If a Deadspin Pants Party ever finds its way to a hockey arena (yeah, right), I believe we have the perfect ice resurfacing machine to get the job done: Behold the tiki bar Zamboni.

Bid are now open on eBay for this custom hot rod convertible. At first glance, it appears to be your standard ice rink smoothing vehicle, but flip the switch and it's like, "Hey, Bud ... Let's party!"

"Looks like a regular Zamboni until you pull the party starter. Then the lid raises up over the chip bin exposing a full tiki bar, grass skirts, bamboo mats, tiki dolls, exotic cocktails, disco lamps and a huge 454 c.i. Big Block Chevy to move it along."

Sadly, it is no longer a working ice cleaner as the heating and sweeping elements have been removed. However, it is the perfect conversation piece and it is guaranteed to turn even the dullest broomball contest into a scene from "Clambake." (Bikini girls not included.)

So which one of you Zamboners is going to taking up the collection?

<![CDATA[We Are No Longer To Speak Of Carltown]]> Excuse my inner-Lukas, but that right there, my friends, is one ugly-ass looking hockey jersey. It looks like Christmas banged "old" and that's what popped out. But hey, that didn't stop someone from bidding $65+ on eBay for it. And you know what? I almost did, too! Someone had to help a fallen brother out.

Check out this poor guy's description:

Things used to be so good in Carltown, when I lived by myself and had my jerseys hanging wall to wall. Then I got a girlfriend. We moved in together. Things were not so good in Carltown anymore. We got a new place together called Cathyville. The jerseys are not allowed on the walls anymore. The jerseys are not allowed in the closets anymore. We are no longer to speak of Carltown.

<![CDATA[Matt Murphy, Call Your Accountant]]> That fella who caught Barry Bonds' homer the other night, his name's Matt Murphy and, as you might have heard, he's a Mets fan. He'll be selling the ball, of course; estimates are between $400,000 and $500,000. eBay is even trying to help him out.

We've been thinking of late, again, about Tim Forneris, the old Cardinals groundskeeper who gave the ball back to Mark McGwire after he hit his 62nd homer in 1998. At the time, it seemed like the most logical thing in the world to give the ball back; it was seen as a code of honor. Now, of course, it's obvious that honor wasn't returned, and nobody even pretended Murphy would give the ball back to Bonds (who said Murphy should sell it anyway). And he shouldn't; that would be dumb.

But you know what? We haven't heard from Forneris in recent years ... but we bet he doesn't regret giving the ball back at all. Just a hunch. It still, in spite of everything that has happened since then, seems like the right thing to do.

<![CDATA[What Would It Take To Get You To Blog About The Devil Rays For A Year?]]> Fans have auctioned their team allegiances on eBay before, but to my knowledge, no one has ever auctioned their services as a blogger for a particular team. But one blogger (and a good one, at that) would like to be the first... for the right price, he'll spend the entire baseball season blogging about the MLB team of your choice.

It's not just a dude out to make a buck, though, he's doing it for a good cause. Proceeds are to benefit pediatric AIDS research, a subject close to the guy's heart. He's never had a favorite team, he'd like to adopt one for the year, and he'd like to raise some money for a worthy cause in the process. Admirable.

The bidding is currently just over $100. And think about it for a second... wouldn't it be worth that much to have a good team-specific blog to enjoy every day?

In the offseason, the Florida Gators paid coach Urban Meyer $14 million over seven years to bring his high-powered offense to Gainsville. But apparently it only would have cost them $4.25 (plus shipping). Meyer's playbook is up for auction on eBay. Fourteen hours left to go. Good price, if you ask us.
