<![CDATA[You Must Be Above This Age To Ride This Ride]]> Four days ago, we might have been impressed by Mike Flynt, a 59-year-old man who lived his dream by playing a college football game over the weekend. But we are now in the age of Vinny.

For the record, Flynt, only 16 years older than Vinny, got some legitimate minutes for Sul Ross State this weekend.

[Flynt] trotted on the field as a collegian for the first time since 1971. Flynt appeared in 9 plays, coming in as a blocker during kicking situations.
Most importantly, he was on the offensive line blocking for Sul Ross's last play - a 41-yard field goal that gave the Lobos a 45-42 triple-OT victory over Texas Lutheran.

Yeah, well, whatever: Vinny knew, like, three players this week, and his team still won on the road. And he'll be doing when he's 59 too. Shit, he'll probably be blocking on field goals.

<![CDATA[Vinny, Vinny, Vinny, Everywhere]]> News And Notes From Week 6 In the NFL

• We're not going to harp on this, because it's just going to make us upset, but with a chance to go to 4-2 and have a full game lead in the NFC West ... the Buzzsaw lost to the Vinny Testaverde yesterday. And the Kurt Warner injury didn't make all that much difference; they'd have lost if he played as well. The NFC West winner very well might be under .500 this year.

• Today marks the two-week anniversary since we ran our lost Norv Turner Looking Forlorn On The Sidelines photo. There might be something to this give-it-to-LaDaianian and get the hell out of the way thing.

• We wonder if, they had a chance to do it over, if "The Sopranos" would still pick Eric Mangini to play a prominent role in its penultimate episode.

• It's a good thing the Patriots had the last game yesterday, or Boston sports fans would have slept, like, three hours. The Patriots have to make those seven-run 11th innings feel a little better, we'd think.

• We have to come to the belief that the only way to fix the Bears is to put Kyle Orton at quarterback and on the offensive line.

• If Vince Young is out for any period of time, the Titans will regret not grabbing Vinny Testaverde would they could. Hell, we're sure they run the exact same offensive system; they're pretty much the same player.

<![CDATA[It Is, Once Again, Vinny Time]]> We really might have something exciting happening in Glendale this weekend, and we don't mean the dulcet stylings of the Pink Taco. Yes, we might see Vinny Testaverde starting for the Panthers on Sunday.

We couldn't possibly be more thrilled.

"If called upon, I feel like I could do it," Testaverde said. "I'll do whatever they ask me to do and that's why I'm here. I feel comfortable in any situation. We'll just go forward from here and see what happens. Hopefully, I won't have to take a snap this year. If that's the case, we'll have a great year."

We'd like to repeat our favorite fact about Vinny: He's color blind. This will never fail to amuse us. We can't imagine Vinny knows too many of the plays just yet, but we don't think this will stop him from throwing for 400 yards, and then tossing an interception to lose the game.

<![CDATA[To The Buzzsaw Rescue ... Vinny!]]> The locker room of The Buzzsaw That Is The Arizona Cardinals is looking like it might be turning a little bit more funky: The jam master that is Vinny might be back in town.

The Cardinals are giving Vinny Testaverde a tryout today to serve as the backup for Kurt Warner. Awesome.

The Cardinals would have a 1-2 quarterback combination with a combined age approaching 80. Warner is 36, and Testaverde turns 44 on Nov. 13.

Cardinals starting center Al Johnson, who played with Testaverde with the Dallas Cowboys during the 2004 season, says he's be a valuable addition. "Vinny's a real pro, he's as strong as an ox, and he's probably one of my favorite guys I've ever been around, just because of the way he handles himself, whether things were going good or things were going bad," Johnson said.

Testaverde is competing with Tim Rattay for the backup job, and we're gonna think if Rattay can't beat out Vinny, he'll probably just make it official and retire. But seriously, folks: Vinny Testaverde backing up Kurt Warner! Leinart, no offense, man ... but we're not gonna miss you at all.

<![CDATA[NFL Roundup: Davenport Craps Out]]> • After intercepting an Anthony Wright pass in the end zone, Lions defensive back Dre Bly honored injured Packers running back Najeh Davenport by doing a spitting-image impersonation of him. Which was nice, we thought.
• After yesterday, we'll just say that we're going to really enjoy watching Terrell Owens the next few weeks.
• We have a sneaking suspicion that Buccaneers defensive back Ronde Barber probably won't be mentioning his Punch The Referee incident during the next publicity tour for his kid's book. Best part, by the way: Jets coach Herman Edwards could have had Barber ejected for his accidental ref pounding, but said, and we quote, "I'm no tattle-tale." Herman Edwards is so great.
• Sorry, Chad Johnson: Your last touchdown celebration was much, much better.
• The world is just a better place with Vinny Testaverde in it. Honestly, we kind of expected him, after the Jets' win was over, to pop up in Houston to pick the 23rd inning.
• We officially have no comment on Bears' quarterback Kyle Orton's struggles yesterday, except that he's 22 years old and he was just having some fun.
• Today is Brett Favre's (and Deadspin's, we might add) birthday. Why do we get this weird feeling that the Packers are going to win, like, four in a row.
• The Buzzsaw That Is The Arizona Cardinals have a bye week next week. Good.

<![CDATA[Welcome Back, Vinny]]> Well, that didn't take long at all: Vinny Testaverde has returned as starter for the New York Jets. We're not sure he'll be any better than Brooks Bollinger, but he most certainly will be more fun. Our favorite part of Madden 2005, by the way, is signing Vinny to The Buzzsaw That Is The Arizona Cardinals. He's the only guy less mobile than Kurt Warner.

News and views on Vinny's ascension:

• The Gang Green message board: "Vinny getting seriously INJURED — that possibility definitly exists.....i think Herm is making a serious mistake here....and right now or team is in a BAD rythym.....this could end very badly."
• Jet Nation: "I sent God this email:
Dear God,
Do you hate the NY Jets and their fans? If so , why?
I got this reply:
Dear Smizzy,
F#ck you. I lost big money on Super Bowl III. Burn in eternity.
The Big Man."
• The Jets Blog: "...it really doesn't matter who is polishing the deck rails of the Titanic..."
• Jets-Blog: "At starte Testaverde er fuldst ndig urimligt over for Bollinger, der jo ikke gjorde noget forkert i sin debut som starter, men skal jeg v re helt rlig s var der ingen."

Apparently that last one's in another language.
