The Marlins Are "Outraged" Over The Red Sox's Spring Training Lineup
The Marlins are reportedly quite pissed that the Red Sox fielded barely any major leaguers for today's spring training matchup. I will get this out of the way so you needn't bother: Marlins fans are quite pissed that the Marlins field barely any major leaguers during the regular season.
According to the , Marlins executives are "outraged" over the travel lineup the Red Sox brought to Jupiter, and plan to formally complain to the league office.
They are presumably not outraged enough to refund fans, who paid "super premium" prices for this and only this spring game. "Super premium" means the Marlins jacked up the cost of tickets anywhere from 42 to 66 percent.
That lineup is pretty ugly. Only Ryan Lavarnway and Jackie Bradley Jr. have any major league experience, which goes against MLB policy requiring at least four players who either were or are projected to be big-league regulars.
"You deal with travel," Boston manager John Farrell said. "You deal with availability of players. You deal with what we're trying to get done. Today is an enormous workday for our entire infield with Brian (Butterfield) back at home. We earmarked this day on the calendar to do just that. The integrity of the game and for what the fans are going to come and see, we certainly take that into account, but our team is the priority, the individual needs guys have."
The game ended 0-0 in the eighth inning after a lengthy rain delay, which seems about right.
The Marlins are just mad because they think they should be the only ones allowed to cheat their fans.
