The New NHL Division Names Have Been Revealed. One Of Them Is Dumb
Despite our hopes, we will not be getting a Flortheast division. Bummer. What we will be getting are the Pacific, Central, Atlantic, and Metropolitan(?) divisions. Yes, that's three distinct geographical locations and one word that can be used to describe any large city. Good job, NHL.
What's really puzzling is why the NHL—which thought it would be a good idea to stick two Florida teams in the same division as six teams from the northeast region of the country—insisted on using geographic-themed names at all. If you're going to carve up the map like that, go ahead and come up with some names that are a little more unconventional than Pacific, Central, and Atlantic. Then, Metropolitan might not look so silly.
