What Josh Beckett Does On His Off Days Stays Between Josh Beckett And His Off Days
After apparently solving things a few weeks ago, the Red Sox have (thankfully) returned to aggressive catastrophe status. They're 2-8 in their last 10 games, including an 8-3 thrashing yesterday at the hands of the Cleveland Indians. Josh Beckett gave up seven runs in a little more than two innings, which vexed Boston fans extra because Beckett went golfing while apparently injured last week.
Beckett said of his golf-off day,
"I spend my off days the way I want to spend them," he said. "My off day is my off day. We get 18 off days a year. I think we deserve a little bit of time to ourselves."
Yes, only 18 off days, plus the other 150 or so off days during the winter months, plus the four days out of every five during which Beckett isn't expected to do anything. His sentiment is right-on, I guess, but the math is wrong.
