Guardians vs. Angels Prediction: Picks, Odds and Best Bets for Tuesday

The Cleveland Guardians (66-66) and the Los Angeles Angels (52-80) meet for the middle contest of a three-game series at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, California on Tuesday. First pitch is scheduled for 9:45 p.m. ET.

In the series opener Monday, Cleveland racked up a 4-2 victory as moderate favorites (-164) behind All-Star LHP Parker Messick, who allowed just one run, three hits and one walk with four strikeouts across six innings in a quality start and win, moving to 10-8.

On the flip side, Los Angeles rookie RHP George Klassen pitched pretty well, allowing three runs (two earned) with six hits and three walks across 5 ⅓ IP, while whiffing three in his 90-pitch showing. The Angels defense was sloppy, however, committing two errors, which ended up being costly.

It was also Jo Adell’s first game back in Anaheim after he was traded to the Guardians prior to the non-waiver trade deadline. He went 1 for 3 with a walk and an RBI in his return, while Steven Kwan finished 2 for 5 with a run scored out of the leadoff spot. Austin Hedges swatted a two-run homer in five at-bats, too.

The Guardians have racked up five consecutive victories to get back in the mix for the final wild-card spot in the American League. The Under cashed for the sixth consecutive game on Monday, and the total has gone low in eight of the past nine outings.

Cleveland turns to RHP Gavin Williams (12-7, 3.72 ERA, 1.09 WHIP), who is third in the majors with 201 strikeouts, as it looks to win a sixth straight game, get back over .500, and secure the series victory.

Los Angeles will counter with rookie RHP Walbert Urena (8-9, 2.80 ERA, 1.24 WHIP) for his 22nd start, and 24th overall appearance. He has been impressive at home, going 7-2 with a 2.27 ERA, while teams are hitting just .176 against him at The Big A. He has allowed just two homers in his 12 home starts, too.

While the rookie has been impressive, Cleveland might be playing its best baseball of the season. Let’s back the GUARDIANS (-149) to get the job done on the road, as they look to win a sixth consecutive game. That would be one short of a season high for wins in a row. Cleveland won seven in a row May 16-22.

However, with Urena tossing up plenty of donuts at home, we’ll side with the UNDER 7.5 (-110), and go rather aggressively on that.

At the time of publishing, pitcher props weren’t yet available. But, remember that the Angels strike out more than any other team in the American League, whiffing 1,244 times through 132 games. That’s 9.42 strikeouts per game. With Williams third in the majors, look for him to rack up a healthy total, so be sure to check the strikeouts O/U props.
