Arizona Cardinals GM Steve Keim Cited For Driving Under The Influence On July 4
credits: Christian Petersen | source: [object Object] Arizona Cardinals general manager Steve Keim was charged with driving under the influence after a traffic stop in Arizona the night of July 4, reports KTAR News 92.3. AZ Central Keim was nabbed by a checkpoint in Chandler, southeast of Phoenix, just after midnight on July 5, and was released from custody later that morning.
The team and Keim issued statements via the Cardinals Twitter account Saturday morning:
The Cardinals released receiver Michael Floyd in 2016 about one week after he was arrested for driving under the influence, in the most recent case of the organization’s response to a DUI arrest. Floyd was charged with “Super Extreme DUI” for driving with a blood-alcohol level of .217. But, as pointed out by Cardswire, Cardinals president Michael Bidwell made the case at the time that Floyd’s release had more to do with Floyd hiding the arrest from the team and changing his story than with the arrest itself, a position that probably goes a long way towards explaining why the third sentence of the team’s statement following Keim’s arrest says he “immediately alerted the team who in turn reported it to the NFL.”
The NFL’s personal conduct policy and history of handling DUIs suggests some sort of league punishment is in Keim’s future, including possibly a fine or suspension.
