Earlier Sunday, Team Europe opened play with a doubles victory as Spain's Carlos Alcaraz and Norway's Casper Ruud downed Americans Alex Michelsen and Reilly Opelka 7-6 (4), 6-1 to close Team World's lead to 9-6.
Australia's Alex de Minaur got Team World to 12-6 with a 6-3, 6-4 win over the Czech Republic's Jakub Mensik, but Alcaraz kept Team Europoe alive with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Argentina's Francisco Cerundolo for a 12-9 difference, leaving it up to the final match to determine the winner. Fritz, who knocked off Alcaraz on Saturday for his first career singles victory over a reigning top-ranked player, downed World No. 3 Zverev.
