The Thunder are the overwhelming favorites in this matchup versus the Heat and that looks just right. Reigning league Most Valuable Player (MVP) Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is on pace yet again for another MVP season with averages of 31.9 points, 6.4 assists, and 4.5 rebounds on 55.4% shooting from the field. The 27-year old Canadian superstar is expected to deliver more of the same against the Heat, especially with his ability to attack both off the dribble in transition. Look for the Heat to put the clamps on Gilgeous-Alexander here and try to force other players to beat them. Of course, that is easier said than done as Gilgeous-Alexander’s versatility on the offensive end makes him nearly impossible to contain.
That said, the Heat will have to focus on limiting the driving lanes for Gilgeous-Alexander and trying to put a body on other Thunder stars such as Jalen Williams and Chet Holmgren. Offensively, the Heat will need Norman Powell and Andrew Wiggins to step up alongside Bam Adebayo if they hope to keep this contest within striking distance. Powell and Wiggins will need to provide consistent perimeter scoring while Adebayo’s presence in the paint will be crucial in securing the boards and limiting any easy baskets which has been a key factor in slowing down the Thunder’s balanced attack this season.
