Beyoncé Makes Surprise Appearance To Present Colin Kaepernick With Sports Illustrated Award
Beyoncé showed up at tonight’s Sports Illustrated Sportsman of the Year Ceremony to present Colin Kaepernick with the Muhammad Ali Legacy Award, given annually to an athlete who uses sports as a platform to change the world.
“I say this as a person who receives credit for using my platform to protest systemic oppression, racialized injustice and and the dire consequences of anti-blackness in America,” said the former 49ers quarterback, now out of a job after sparking the protest movement that has spread across the NFL and to other sports, along with infuriating the president to no end. “I accept this award not for myself, but on behalf of the people. Because if it were not for my love of the people, I would not have protested. And if it was not for the support from the people, I would not be on this stage today.”
