Deadspin has long admired Sports Illustrated's weekly Sign of the Apocalypse, a cheeky chronicle of sports' wacky tapestry. But why stop at one sign per week? This civilization of ours has plenty of foibles to go around.

SI's SotA for the week of Aug. 27, 2012: A Worcester (Mass.) Tornadoes game in the independent Can-Am baseball league was delayed for an hour when repo men sent by a court attempted to seize the team's equipment for the Tornadoes' failure to pay a cleaning company.


Deadspin SotA for the week of Aug. 27, 2012: Researchers found that the Antarctic may contain 4 billion metric tons of previously unrecognized methane, a greenhouse gas 25 times more potent than carbon dioxide, that receding ice sheets could release into the atmosphere. Estimates of the overall carbon trapped under Antarctic ice rivals that of the northern permafrost, which if melted also threatens to alter the delicate chemistry of Earth's atmosphere.
