Blogdom's Best: Pittsburgh Steelers
This image was lost some time after publication. It might not — yet — have the online fanaticism and cachet of baseball, but the NFL and its fans are starting to catch up in the world of team-devoted blogs. To this end, Deadspin salutes these modem-addled souls and proudly presents Blogdom's Best, given to the most outstanding blog for each NFL team. There are fewer than there are for baseball, but they're out there, if you look. If you would like to nominate a blog (yours, even) for selection, just let us know at [email protected]. Today: The Pittsburgh Steelers.
We love the Pittsburgh Steelers because A. They were once called the Steagles; B. They were also, for one year, named Card-Pitt, or "carpet" for short; C. Their mascot is a towel. One would think that four Super Bowl championships would mellow them out a bit, but not so — Steelers fans remain unhinged, or possessed, or both. They are also incredibly loyal, with only two coaches (Chuck Noll, Bill Cowher) since 1969. Their Web presence is plentiful and diverse — what other team can claim personal Web sites for the starting and backup quarterbacks? Terry Bradshaw has his own web site. Jack Lambert has his own site. Lynn Freakin' Swann is running for Governor. This town is seriously screwed up. We love it. Three of the best Steelers blogs: 3. Heels, Sox and Steelers. A bit unpolished, with few of the production extras you'll find on the bigger sites, this blog gets by on good writing, consistency and attention to detail. 2. McMillen and Wife Pittsburgh Steelers. Like Disney World, impossible to see the whole thing in one day. We're still not sure what all is there — we just know that what we've seen so far we like. 1. Steeler Gridiron. It's early Monday morning, and they already have three new news posts and a column online on the win over the Browns. Plus one of their regular writers is 18 years old and wore a suit for his column mug.
