Blogdom's Best: Tennessee Titans
This image was lost some time after publication. It might not — yet — have the online fanaticism and cachet of baseball, but the NFL and its fans are starting to catch up in the world of team-devoted blogs. To this end, Deadspin salutes these modem-addled souls and proudly presents Blogdom's Best, given to the most outstanding blog for each NFL team. There are fewer than there are for baseball, but they're out there, if you look. If you would like to nominate a blog (yours, even) for selection, just let us know at [email protected]. Today: The Tennessee Titans.
So Bud Adams moves the Houston Oilers to Tennessee in 1997, where they become the Tennessee Oilers for a couple of seasons, and then the Tennessee Titans. The Texans, an expansion franchise, move into Houston in 2002. But does any of this have to do with the old Dallas Texans, which played in the NFL in 1952, the next season moving to Baltimore to become the Colts? Also we got up this morning and our sneakers were missing. We're going back to bed. We would like to know, actually, if any former Houston Oilers fans now feel an affinity for the Titans, or whether they've enbraced the Texans, or neither. We'd also really like to find those shoes. Anyone with any insight? Let us just say this about the Houston Oilers: Wahoo McDaniel once played for them. He's probably our favorite NFL player who was arrested for knocking out two cops and then became a professional wrestler. And let us also just say this about the Music City Miracle — the most famous moment in Titans' history thus far: We think it was perfectly legal. But that's just us. One thing about Nashville is that they are at the top of the list among places where Elvis once lived, but near the bottom when it comes to pro football blogs. They haven't had much time to build a fan base, after all. But there are three good ones:
3. Titans Central. A little bit of everything, although we wish it had more original writing. Still, smartly presented. 2. Go Titans. Finally, a Fan2Fan Alliance site that doesn't drown out the writing with bells and whistles. Again, could use more original content and less big media linkage. 1. Total Titans. The best true Titans blog, a good read. Most Valuable Network must recruit like a college football head coach. (Monday: Green Bay Packers)
