Mexico Keeps World Cup Dreams Alive With Spectacular Bicycle Kick
This, from Mexico's Raúl Jiménez, came in the 85th minute, four minutes after Panama had just equalized and bummed all of Mexico out. Jimenez brought them all back to life with a bicycle kick laser that left Panama goalkeeper Jaime Penedo rooted to his spot. Look at him. Either it's going wide or, aw crap it's good.
Jimenez gave Mexico a 2-1 victory and continued life in World Cup qualifying. The top three CONCACAF teams automatically qualify and the fourth must win an intercontinental playoff against New Zealand. The U.S. and Costa Rica have secured two of the three automatic bids and Honduras needs only a draw against Jamaica (eliminated) to sew up the third. Mexico, currently fourth, play their final qualifier on Tuesday against Costa Rica. A win, and they play New Zealand in a home-and-home. A loss, and Panama could possibly snatch that playoff spot away.
