This Long-Range Volley Might Win MLS Goal Of The Year
The Houston Dynamo visited the New England Revolution yesterday in MLS play. Houston won 2-1, which is fine, but what's really worth talking about is this filthy, filthy 25-yard volley from midfielder Adam Moffat to give the Dynamo the 1-0 lead.
Houston won a corner kick, which was whipped into the box but headed, it seemed, to safety. But Moffat was lurking more than 25 yards from goal, and the clearance lined up perfectly with his left. The Scot took the ball on the full volley and ripped the shot over Revolution keeper Bobby Shuttleworth's head.
Shuttleworth was screened by all the players still in the box, but the placement of the shot also made it difficult to save. It's tough for keepers to get their hands up to save a ball fired right over their heads, especially one hit with as much pace as Moffat's.
Unreal technique for the finish, and we'll probably see this one again when it's time to hand out trophies for goal of the year.
