Gather Your Mates And Have A Laugh At England's "It's Coming Home" World Cup Meme

If you’ve been tooling around the internet at all during the last week or so, it’s possible that you’ve seen a meme like the one above and wondered what the heck is going on. What’s going on is that England fans have rediscovered a dopey single called “Three Lions (Football’s Coming Home),” which was recorded in 1996 by a band called the Lightning Seeds to commemorate England hosting the 1996 Euros. England, obviously, did not win that tournament.
But now English fans have reclaimed the song, and semi-ironically turned it into a rallying cry for this year’s World Cup campaign. Everyone’s having a great time:

I’ll admit that I am very sad about the fact that I will never get to experience this sort of nationwide sports hysteria here in America, unless of course U.S. Soccer gets its shit together in a hurry. Maybe we’ll get there if the U.S. Olympic basketball team spends the next few decades blowing it and then has a resurgence at the 2036 Summer Olympics. In the meantime, we can just enjoy this meme vicariously, because it’s pretty great.
