J.D. Martinez Nails Jay Bruce At The Plate To End Game

Down a run, with two men on with two outs in the ninth inning, the Mets’ Travis d’Arnaud hit a grounder through the right side. Bruce steamed around third, and Tigers right fielder Martinez came up throwing:

Martinez, who had the third most outfield assists in the majors last season, was intentionally playing shallow in right field:
“I was kind of in a way anticipating it a little bit,” Martinez said. “I wasn’t confident that he was really going to drive something over my head, so I kind of just shaded in a little bit more than perhaps they say you should.”
With the win, the red hot Tigers kept pace with the Indians, and are two games back in the AL Central.
