Jerry Sandusky Applied For A Coaching Job Last Year, Was Rejected For Pretty Obvious Reasons
The investigation into Jerry Sandusky's alleged sex abuse of the boy now known as Victim 1 began in 2008, and a grand jury was impaneled in 2009 to look into claims from additional victims, but that didn't stop ol' Jerry from seeking a job as a volunteer assistant coach at Division III Juniata College in May 2010. According to central Pennsylvania television station WHP, Juniata was not aware of the ongoing investigation against Sandusky, which was revealed during a routine background check. In his application, the school says, Sandusky authorized the background check but never acknowledged he was being investigated for allegedly sexually abusing a child.
From the Associated Press, per the WHP report, which aired last night:
Juniata spokesman John Wall said the college was not informed of the details of the investigation or the existence of a grand jury, but based on the report informed its coaches Sandusky was not to have contact with the program.
Even that didn't stop Sandusky from attending Juniata games and actually sitting in the press box once when the team played on the road. Wall noted, however, that the school's former athletic director again made it clear to the team's coaches afterward that Sandusky was to have no ties with the program.
