LeBron, Irving, Garnett, Others Wear "I Can't Breathe" T-Shirts
If you don't like serious cultural issues "intruding" into the sports world, it's going to be another tough week for you. The Cavaliers are playing against the Nets in Brooklyn tonight, and the Barclays Center has become a hub of protest against police brutality, especially the killing by a NYPD cop of Staten Island man Eric Garner, whose last words were repeated cries of "I can't breathe."
Before the game, hundreds of protesters held a die-in outside of the Barclays Center:
During warmups, a number of players on both teams—LeBron James, Kyrie Irving, Kevin Garnett, Deron Williams, Jarrett Jack, and Alan Anderson—wore similar "I Can't Breathe" t-shirt to the one Derrick Rose first wore two nights ago. The t-shirts the NEts wore were delivered to the locker room by Jay-Z.
Adam Silver is in the arena, and when asked, the man who kicked Donald Sterling out of the NBA gave this wishy-washy, #brand-conscious response:
Oh yeah, and some English royalty were there and had this fascinating conversation with Silver, an NBA VP, and Dikembe Mutombo:
Cleveland is beginning to turn into the machine we all thought they would be, and are beating the Nets by 20.
