Action 24/7 online sportsbook has closed its doors to Tennessee sports bettors. When customers visit the website, the following message appears:
“Tennessee Action 24/7 LLC is no longer accepting wagers. All wagers previously accepted will be honored.
“We are proud to have served our friends and neighbors as the only Tennessee owned and operated licensed online sportsbook for the past 5 years.
“Thank you for your play. Thank you for your loyalty.”
The message goes on to highlight that over 90 percent of funds invested in the company were from Tennesseans.
Tennessee was the lone market where Action 24/7 was available. DraftKings, FanDuel, BetMGM, Caesars, and Fanatics were some of the national brands it was going up against.
Company founder and CEO Tina Hodges released a statement to the Nashville Post explaining the decision to shut down operations.
“Despite our very best efforts and dedication, the current landscape for state-licensed online sports gambling in the United States has proven to be unviable and unprofitable for all operators in the industry,” Hodges said.
It hasn’t exactly been smooth sailing for Action 24/7. In March 2021, the operator had its license temporarily suspended. An investigation by the Tennessee Education Lottery Corporation revealed that the platform lacked the necessary internal controls to operate an online sportsbook in the Volunteer State.
The situation included Action 24/7 self-reporting suspicion of fraudulent activity linked to nearly two dozen accounts.
There were signs of alleged money laundering and credit card fraud. Besides leading Action 24/7, Hodges has served as CEO of Advance Financial for more than a decade. Sportsbook customers had the option of using Advance Financial retail locations to fund their accounts.
Even though the allegations against the operator ended up being dropped, Action 24/7 became the first U.S. sportsbook to have its license suspended.
Action 24/7 might’ve been the sportsbook that was exclusive to Volunteer State bettors, but the market is still intact with more than a dozen operators. Bally Bet, bet365, theScore Bet, and Hard Rock Bet are among the other licensed operators that have national brand recognition.
Action 24/7 customers have plenty of Super Bowl LX betting alternatives. This year’s Big Game is taking place on Feb. 9 in Santa Clara, California.
