BetMGM announced an update to its terms of service to “explicitly prohibit athlete harassment.” Under the revised terms, BetMGM will suspend a customer’s account if the individual is found to have used harassing or abusive language toward athletes, coaches, or team or league personnel.
Under the previous terms, the operator allowed account suspension for any lawful reason, harassment included. BetMGM’s policy change now provides more clarity and underscores the company’s commitment to sports integrity and player safety. Updates to the terms of service are subject to regulatory approval as required.
The last several months have included several betting scandals that have rocked the sports betting world. This includes the January college basketball betting scandal involving 39 Division I men’s basketball players from 17 different teams. The investigation uncovered 29 fixed games that took place between September 2022 and February 2025.
With the games that were allegedly rigged or impacted, bribes reportedly ranged between $10,000 and $30,000 per game. BetMGM is doing its part by being “unwavering in its commitment to sports integrity.”
“Our legal, regulated environment enables us to identify misconduct, investigate reports, and take action when necessary,” Rhea Loney, BetMGM’s Chief Compliance Officer, said. “Any confirmed instance of harassment will result in decisive measures, including account suspension.”
Barry Sanders, who is a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, also happens to be a BetMGM ambassador. He played 10 seasons in the NFL, all with the Detroit Lions. Even though his playing days ended decades before the BetMGM sports betting app was created, Sanders backs the operator’s latest integrity messaging.
“As a professional athlete, I know how important respect is — both on and off the field,” Sanders said. “BetMGM is sending a strong message that harassment has no place in sports or sports betting. I’m proud to see BetMGM protecting athletes and promoting integrity.”
Maintaining the integrity of legal sports betting is another important layer to BetMGM’s policies.
