Key Points
  • Hard Rock Bet joins other operators like FanDuel and DraftKings in credit card ban
  • Sen. Elizabeth Warren sent a letter urging credit card bans earlier this year
  • Highlights Hard Rock Bet’s commitment to responsible gaming

Hard Rock Bet is the latest operator to remove credit cards as a deposit method on its sports betting platform. The goal is to enhance consumer protections, aligning with the industry trend of preventing players from funding their accounts on credit. The move is the latest example of Hard Rock Bet demonstrating its commitment to responsible gaming.

Credit card deposits and impulsive gambling go hand-in-hand

Sportsbooks have decided to remove credit cards as a deposit method to prioritize responsible gaming. With credit card deposits, users were able to fund their account with money they may not have. This could feed into problem gambling, which is why so many operators have already removed credit cards as a deposit method.

The list of sportsbooks to ban credit cards includes prominent operators like DraftKings and FanDuel. Even states have gone through with this ban, such as Colorado.

Hard Rock Bet continues to expand across the country, now available in the following states:

  • Arizona
  • Colorado
  • Florida
  • Illinois
  • Indiana
  • Michigan
  • New Jersey
  • Ohio
  • Tennessee
  • Virginia

This made it even more important to align with other sportsbooks by banning credit card deposits. Current deposit methods at Hard Rock Bet include debit cards, online bank transfers, PayPal, and Venmo.

Senator Elizabeth Warren urged Hard Rock Bet to ban credit card deposits

Back in February, Sen. Elizabeth Warren wrote a letter to Hard Rock Digital to ban credit cards on its platform. Sen. Warren stated that “nearly a quarter of bettors have placed bets using credit cards,” which is problematic.

Sen. Warren explained that credit cards charge undisclosed fees since it’s considered a cash advance, stating that “customers who use their credit card to fund their account for a $20 bet would pay a $10 fee.” Combined with the issue of depositing funds into their accounts with money they may not have, there is a risk that users can accumulate gambling debt in this way.

To this end, by removing credit card deposits, Hard Rock Bet has improved its user experience.

Hard Rock Bet shows commitment to responsible gaming

Removing credit card deposits is the latest way that Hard Rock Bet has demonstrated its commitment to responsible gaming and problem gambling. In Fall 2025, Hard Rock Bet launched a new responsible gaming website, creating a main hub for bettor education and support resources.

Typically, sportsbooks have their responsible gaming tools buried within a user profile or listed as a link at the bottom of the page. In other words, they aren’t prominently displayed, making it more difficult for users to access them.

While other betting sites do have prompts for gaming session reminders, it’s helpful that Hard Rock Bet has a separate website for responsible gaming. This makes it much easier for its users to find the tools they need, whether it’s on how to set deposit limits or any other helpful tools.

Together with banning credit cards, the two moves highlight Hard Rock Bet’s commitment to responsible gaming, which is increasingly important as sports betting continues to expand across the country.
