New York’s online sports betting market produced a historic July, setting a new revenue record for the month despite the industry’s traditionally slower summer period.
According to figures released by the New York Gaming Commission, the state’s eight licensed online sportsbooks generated $214.4 million in gross gaming revenue from $1.88 billion in wagers during July. The total marked the first time monthly July revenue surpassed $200 million since mobile sports betting launched in New York in January 2022.
The state’s sportsbooks benefited from an 11.4% hold rate, meaning operators retained a larger percentage of wagers than they did a month earlier. June proved far less favorable for sportsbooks, making July’s rebound particularly notable.
Revenue increased by more than $97 million month over month and rose 37.8% compared to July 2025. Six of New York’s eight online operators reported revenue growth from June to July, highlighting a broad-based improvement across the market.
While summer months often see lower betting activity because major U.S. sports are in their offseason periods, this year was different. International soccer helped drive engagement and wagering volume during a period that is typically quieter for sportsbooks.
The FIFA World Cup remained a major factor in betting activity throughout the summer. New York bettors continued placing significant wagers on tournament matches, helping sportsbooks maintain strong handle numbers even without the NFL or NBA in full swing.
July’s handle increased 34.3% compared to the same month last year. Combined, June and July generated roughly $4.1 billion in wagers as the World Cup attracted betting interest across the state.
The tournament also proved favorable for sportsbooks. Results during the knockout stage, including Spain’s victory over Argentina in the final, reportedly worked in operators’ favor. Strong performance on various soccer betting markets helped contribute to the elevated hold percentage and revenue totals recorded during the month.
The state’s tax collections benefited as well. New York’s 51% tax rate on sportsbook revenue generated more than $109 million for state coffers in July alone, pushing year-to-date tax revenue beyond $725 million.
Competition remained tight among New York’s leading sportsbook operators, with FanDuel and DraftKings once again controlling the largest shares of the market.
DraftKings accepted the highest betting volume during July, reporting a handle of approximately $661.5 million. That wagering activity generated $72.9 million in gross gaming revenue for the operator.
FanDuel finished close behind in handle at $651.2 million but led all operators in revenue. The sportsbook posted $86.1 million in gross gaming revenue thanks to a 13.2% hold rate, which was one of the strongest performances among New York’s sportsbooks during the month.
Fanatics Sportsbook maintained its place among the state’s larger operators, generating $21.1 million in revenue from $221.6 million in wagers. BetMGM and Caesars also posted double-digit revenue figures, reflecting the continued strength of New York’s online sports betting market.
New York remains the largest legal online sports betting market in the United States by revenue, and July’s results provide another example of the state’s ability to generate betting activity even during slower parts of the sports calendar.
The combination of strong wagering interest, favorable outcomes for sportsbooks, and continued competition among major operators helped produce a record-setting month. With football season approaching, sportsbooks will now look to carry that momentum into what is typically the busiest betting period of the year.
Although monthly hold percentages can fluctuate, July demonstrated how major international sporting events can significantly influence revenue results, even when total wagering volume falls below the peaks commonly seen during NFL season.
