Luka Donic joined an elite club on Christmas

Monday night, Luka Doncic became the fastest player since Michael Jordan to hit 10,000 career points in the Mav’s win against the Suns. It puts him seventh on the list of players to hit 10,000 points the fastest in their careers. Here are the rest of the top ten fastest to reach the plateau in league history.
10. Shaquille O’Neal (445 games)

There is an entire generation who knows Shaq almost solely for his role as an analyst or in commercials, but before switching to that career, he was an unstoppable offensive force in the league. He scored 10,000 career points during the 1998-99 season, where he was averaging 26.3 points and 10.7 total rebounds per game.
9. Carmelo Anthony (405 games)

Anthony has actually hit the 10k club with two different teams, something that only Elvin Hayes and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar have done before him. Melo hit it in 405 games with the Nuggets and 582 with the Knicks.
8. LeBron James (368 games)

The NBA’s all-time leading scorer hit 10k points in 368 games. He is the only active player on the list other than Doncic. James hit the milestone during the 2007-08 season while with the Cavaliers. He is also the only player to ever reach 10,000 points, 10,000 rebounds and 10,000 assists.
7. Luka Doncic/Bob McAdoo (358 games)

Doncic hit the milestone on Christmas day of this year against the Suns. He entered the game needing only 11 points to get the record. At 24, he is a four-time All-Star.
Bob McAdoo was one of the best big shooters of all time and a player with an unlimited skill set. He had a 14-year career spent with legendary organizations such as the Lakers, the Celtics, the Knicks and the 76ers. McAdoo hit the plateau in 1977, when he was in the prime of his career. Averaging 26.7 points and playing for the Knicks, he was building his case for the Hall of Fame. McAdoo ended his career as a two-time NBA champion, three-time scoring champion and the ‘74-’75 MVP.
6. George Gervin (355 games)

Iceman hit the mark in 1980 while playing for the San Antonio Spurs, the same year he secured the scoring title for the third year in a row. It took him only 355 games. At that time, he was averaging 33.1 points per game. He was essentially Michael Jordan before Michael Jordan. While he reached multiple conference finals with the Spurs, he was never able to claim a title.
5. Oscar Robertson (334 games)

Oscar Robertson hit the 10k mark in the same season that he won an NBA championship with the Milwaukee Bucks. He was traded to Milwaukee after 10 years with the Cincinnati Royals. Mr. Triple Double was averaging 19.4 points per game and 8.2 assists in that championship year. He was a prolific scorer from just about anywhere on the court.
4. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (319 games)

The former all-time leading scorer hit 10,000 points in 319 games during the ‘73-’74 season while he was playing in Milwaukee. It’s weird to think about him in anything other than a Lakers uniform, but the six-time NBA champion spent his first six seasons with the Bucks. Abdul-Jabbar’s points record held for 39 years before Lebron James broke it last season.
3. Elgin Baylor (315 games)

Another Lakers legend is on the list. This time it is Elgin Baylor, who accomplished the feat in 315 games during the 1962-63 season. Baylor was the first overall pick in the 1958 NBA draft. He was a talented all-around player; good at shooting, rebounding and passing. He also spent decades as the Clippers GM and won NBA Executive of the Year in 2006.
2. Michael Jordan (303 games)

Michael Jordan hit 10k points in the 1988-89 season. The Chicago Tribune reported that Jordan hit the mark on a fadeaway shot to pull the Bulls ahead of the 76ers, 102-101 in the fourth quarter. That season, he averaged 32.5 points per game and 8 assists.
1. Wilt Chamberlain (236 games)

The fastest to ever hit 10k points in the fewest amount of games is Wilt Chamberlain. He did it in 236 games. He is a two-time champion, four-time MVP and a 13-time All-Star. He hit the milestone in the ‘62-’63 season and averaged a whopping 44.8 points with the San Francisco Warriors.
