With just eight picks remaining in the 2014 draft, the St. Louis Rams selected SEC Defensive Player of the Year Michael Sam. It took nearly the whole damned draft for Sam to get selected—consider in the last six years no SEC Defensive Player of the Year had been selected later than 17th overall before him—but Sam becomes the first openly gay man selected in the NFL Draft.
