If you like the idea of a mystery box site focused on trading cards, Boxed.gg is worth a look. As a new user, you can claim a free mystery box when you sign up, and no promo code is required.
There are usually around 150 different boxes available, with most centered on real collectible trading cards.
Others focus on digital items like CS2 skins and in-game weapons. The platform uses Gems as its internal currency, and in this review I’ll break down how you can earn and use them.

One thing that many of you will find appealing, is the Boxed.gg offer for new customers. All you need to do is to complete the straightforward registration process, which only requires you to provide your email address and to choose a username.
In return you’ll receive a free mystery box containing a selection of Gem Vouchers. When you open the box, and pull your voucher, the relevant amount of Gems is added to your balance right away.
Card collecting veterans might argue that you’re paying for the fun of opening a box, but I beg to differ. Of course, there is the likelihood that you’ll pull a card that is worth less than the number of Gems for the box, but if that happens, you can ‘sell’ it back for the amount of Gems assigned to it.
In addition, when you order trading cards online, there’s no guarantee that the seller will package them well enough to prevent damage in transit, and you also can’t be sure that they match up to the described condition either. So Boxed.gg wins on both counts.
Every card you receive is individually packaged in cellophane, then placed in a rigid plastic card holder, before being packed in a bubble envelope ready for shipping. In terms of condition, Boxed.gg has a specialist team that grades every card, so if you pull a ‘Near mint’ card, that’s what you’ll get.
Although the mystery boxes themselves are represented digitally, the contents are mostly real cards. In turn, this gives you the option to either retain them in your Boxed.gg ‘Inventory’ or to have them shipped.
In addition, Boxed.gg does have a limited number of mystery boxes containing digital items like CS:GO skins, weapons, and cosmetic items. Like most mystery box sites, all of the boxes you’ll find here are purchased using Gems, which is Boxed.gg’s on-site virtual currency.
Collectible trading cards for games like Yu-Gi-Oh, Pokemon, and Magic: The Gathering are the most popular offerings. However, you’ll also find a selection of sports-themed cards available occasionally, but there were none available during my Boxed.gg review.
Taking Pokemon as an example, I found 100 mystery boxes. I started with the low-cost Shiny Hunt box for 25 Gems, which contained four cards:
I ran the Demo five times, but only managed to pull one of the lesser cards on each occasion, but in fairness, it does carry a maximum 4 Spice rating.
At the top end of the spectrum, I found the Full Moon box with a huge 27,755 Gem price tag, a 4 Spice rating, and just three cards. Interestingly, the two top cards had already been pulled, and were replaced by a Gem Voucher, so I didn’t feel it was worth pursuing this one further.
The only digital boxes available during my Boxed.gg review were all for CS2. I counted 47 altogether, with the lowest-priced being the Mission Impossible box for 20 Gems, which contained a selection of seven knives and guns.
At the other end of the scale was the High Roller box costing a colossal 985,964 Gems. I took a peek inside and found 32 items, from Marble Fade Specialist Gloves at 66.8k Gems, to an iBuyPower Hologram priced at 18 million Gems.
You’ll have gathered by now that Boxed.gg works a little differently to many other mystery box sites. Rather than making deposits as such, you purchase Gems, which in turn you use to purchase boxes. So the next part of my Boxed.gg review will focus on the ways you can obtain them.
You can buy Gem Refills via your Boxed.gg account area by clicking on the ‘Gem Refills’ link. There are six ready-made packages ranging in price from $9.98 for 1,000 Gems, up to $499.98 for 55,000 Gems. You can also add a custom amount, which may suit if you already have a specific box in mind, rather than simply browsing.
You’ll be invited to give your opinion, based on five or six options, via a daily Poll. The topics range from your overall user experience to your thoughts on a specific Boxed.gg feature. In return, you’ll receive 5 Gems for each Poll you complete.
You will need to join the Boxed.gg Discord channel before you can access the Daily Reward Wheel. Once you’ve joined the official Discord server, you’ll be able to spin the wheel once every 24 hours. There are different amounts of Gems in each segment (from 1 to 10,000 Gems) and you’ll get the amount revealed when the wheel stops.
Gem Missions are one of the best ways to acquire Gems for free. You can go to the Missions page by clicking on the Rewards tab on the top menu, then clicking on Gem Missions in the dropdown. I found 41 different missions during my Boxed.gg review. The quickest and easiest was watching short advertisements to receive 4 Gems. Others require you to install apps on your phone, and play them up to a specific level. You also have the option to filter Missions to show options just for PC, Android, or iOS, which is a nice touch.
You can obtain a unique referral code from your Boxed.gg account area to send to your friends. For any who sign up you’ll receive a 5% boost to your Gems balance. In addition, you’ll receive 5% of their total mystery box spend, up to a maximum of $100 per referral.
You’ll need to have a verified user account to access Random Gem Drops, as only those who have completed the KYC process can join the on-site chat, which is where the action takes place. Boxed.gg drops 2,000 Gems twice-hourly, two minutes before the end of each half hour e.g. at 15.28, then at 15.58. The Gems are allocated to 20 active users who are selected at random.
I’ve added Boxed.gg gift codes in this part of my review, because they come with a caveat. First of all, Boxed.gg doesn’t supply gift codes, they are obtained from third-party sites. That in itself can present a problem, because so-called ‘free’ gift codes are most likely a scam, and any you can obtain from reputable sites come at a cost. In light of this, my advice is to steer clear.
As you’ve learned from my Boxed.gg review, the two main things to know are that the brand specializes in mystery boxes containing real trading cards, and you need Gems to purchase them.
I’ve explained how things work on the brand’s site, given you examples of the mystery boxes you’ll find here, and detailed all of the ways that you can obtain Gems. Now it’s over to you. If you like the sound of Boxed.gg and are keen to try it out, simply click the link on our page banner to go directly to the site, complete the short registration form, and collect your free mystery box today.
No Boxed.gg promo code is needed to sign up at the site and claim a free mystery box. The straightforward registration process takes just a few seconds to complete, and you can access your free box immediately.
Although you don’t need to verify your user account right away, you will need to do so before you can have physical items shipped. The process is nothing to worry about, you just need to provide the last four digits of your SSN, and upload a copy of your passport or state-issued photo ID card.
There are a number of different ways to acquire free Gems at Boxed.gg, including via the Daily Reward Wheel and referring friends to the site. Other methods include answering a daily Poll question, and completing Gem Missions.
