When Trove launched, I was curious to see how it compared to other mystery box platforms. So, I registered on the site, and in this detailed Trove review, I’ll tell you everything I learned about the brand.

First things first, Trove offers a decent variety of packs, including those for Pokémon, One Piece, and a few sports. It features a highly functional iOS app and an intuitive website that makes it easy to purchase and open packs. I’ll also touch on the bonuses, payment methods, and customer service, so keep reading for more details.

A brief overview of Trove

Trove is an online platform where you purchase and open trading card packs. It covers various categories, including major sports, Pokémon, and One Piece. So, whether you’re after a baseball player’s rookie card or you prefer options for trading card games, you might find something that interests you in the Trove packs section.

I like how seamless card rips are on the Trove site and app. You simply choose the category you want, select a price point, complete the payment, and rip the pack. Before the rip, you’ll see a full list of the cards within the pack, the value of the chase cards, and the odds of pulling each one.

Every card inside is real, graded, and sitting in a PSA (Professional Sports Authenticator) vault, where it remains until you decide what you want to do with it. You can have it shipped to you if you’re a collector who prefers the physical option. If you don’t like the card, you can sell it back to the platform and get real money in your balance.

The platform has its own in-house currency called TroveCash. You receive these as bonuses for every pack purchase. Once you have enough TroveCash in your wallet, you can use it for more rips.

What packs can you rip on Trove?

During my Trove review, I found that the site sorts its packs into six major categories: Soccer, Baseball, Basketball, Football, Pokemon, and One Piece. Under each category are “levels,” which are basically the minimum price points. So, you usually have the following:

  • Starter: $25
  • Booster: $50
  • Reserve: $100
  • Premier: $250
  • Epic: $500
  • Legend: $1,000
  • Apex: $2,500

Here’s an overview of each category before I provide more details:

Product TypeAvailableSelection
Soccer trading cardsSeven major subcategories
Baseball trading cardsModern and vintage
Basketball trading cardsSeven subcategories for packs
American Football trading cardsCards for current and past seasons
Pokémon CardsCurrent-era and vintage
One PieceCards for key characters and story arcs

Soccer

Trove’s soccer packs comprise cards that capture players and moments from some of the biggest leagues, including the Premier League and La Liga. With a starting price point of $25, these packs are cost-friendly. Of course, the more premium cards are in the more expensive Legend and Apex subcategories, but you can still pull something valuable when you rip from lower subcategories.

Baseball

Baseball is one of the top sports for collectors, and Trove’s packs feature cards that lean into the game’s history. You’ll find options that mostly cover recent seasons with a few for rarer and older cards. As expected, rookie cards, star player options, and autographs are the most sought after. They are also the more expensive options, as you’ll find them mostly in Legend and Apex packs.

Basketball

Under this category, I found packs that featured cards for established and upcoming players. You just have to check the list to see if a pack features the option you’re looking for. Plus, as with every category on this platform, the basketball section clearly shows the chase cards and their exact value, so you know what the big hits could be.

American Football

Football packs cover both current NFL action and past seasons, giving you enough packs with cards for rookies and established stars. Like other sports, the lower-value cards are in starter booster and reserve subcategories, while most premium options are under Apex.

Pokémon

Pokémon is one of Trove’s most popular categories, and it’s easy to see why. It features everything from current-era cards to genuine vintage packs from the late 90s and early 2000s. While the site does not hold Pokémon card breaks, it often provides limited-time, themed drops, which makes the category exciting for both casual openers and serious collectors building out a specific set.

One Piece

If you’re a fan of the One Piece trading game, you can visit the dedicated pack section to see what’s available. The platform features packs built around key characters and story arcs. Rarer promo cards also occasionally pop up through special drops, though they are usually more expensive than packs in the lower subcategories.

What can you do after a rip?

What happens after a rip?

There are three main things you can do after your pull: ship your cards, sell them back to the platform, or leave them in your collection. Let me explain how each one works:

📦 Ship your cards

If you want to get your cards physically, you simply request that the platform ship them to you. To submit a request, visit “My Collection,” pick the cards you want, tap the “ship” option, and fill out your details. However, before the operator processes your first order, it will require that you complete KYC verification. Plus, you cover the shipping costs, which will be displayed before you submit your request.

💰 Sell your cards back to the platform

One of my favorite approaches is to sell back the cards to the platform. You can do this too, but there are a few things to note. The buyback option is immediately available after your pull. You can get 100% of the card’s fair market value if you sell within two minutes after the rip. The rate drops to 90% after 24 hours, and 80% after a day.

🗃️ Leave your cards in the collection

This is the safest approach when you’re not sure if you want to ship or sell yet. I often do this because Trove does not have an expiration date for inventory cards. In other words, your pulls remain in your collection till you’re ready to use them. Plus, Trove stores its graded sports and TCG cards in a physical PSA vault, so you don’t have to worry about the card’s condition.

Payment methods for deposits and withdrawals

Apple Pay, credit/debit cards, and cryptocurrencies are the only payment methods you can use to fund your account, which is similar to what I found at some of the best mystery box sites. The deposit process is straightforward. Here’s how to go about it:

  1. Log into your account.

  2. Click the wallet icon at the top right of your screen.

  3. Select “deposit,” and enter the amount you want to pay.

  4. Follow the onscreen pop-ups to complete the transaction.

  5. Wait a few seconds for the amount to reflect in your balance.

After every buyback, the platform adds the real-money equivalent to your Trove balance. This wallet is separate from TroveCash’s wallet. You can easily withdraw the funds directly to your bank account via Stripe. I like that withdrawals take just 24 hours, so you can typically get your funds the same day you request a withdrawal.

For deposits, the digital packs platform does not charge you anything extra. It does state that withdrawals might incur fees, though it did not include a fixed amount. Your bank might also require you to pay a certain amount for such transactions. Another fee to note is the service charge. This is a small amount you pay for every pack purchase you make on the platform.

Bonuses to expect at Trove

I didn’t find a welcome bonus during my Trove review, and this was disappointing. Still, the platform scores above average in the bonus department because it offers other rewards. One is the referral bonus that gives you 10% in TroveCash of every pack your referral rips. Another is the 1% TroveCash bonus you receive after every purchase. You also have the option to sell back your card at 100% of its fair market value within minutes of pulling it. I didn’t need a Trove promo code to claim any of them.

The overall pack-ripping experience at Trove

The Trove Pack-Ripping Experience

The Trove website was built with careful consideration. It features both light and dark themes, allowing you to choose what you prefer. Regardless of the theme, you get a straightforward layout that makes navigation easy. The collection, wallet, and profile tabs are at the top right, while the packs icon is at the top left.

Each page is also well-organized. For example, under “Packs,” you can sort the options by category and select a pack that suits your budget. Plus, whenever you open a pack, the platform plays a catchy animation that adds entertainment to the ripping process.

Trove has an iOS app. From my checks, the app is a lot more seamless than the website on Apple devices. It has the same dual theme, but a different layout and faster-loading pages. If you’re using Android, you can load the website on your browser.

How to get started

Whether you use the website or app, you can register and use the digital packs platform within a few seconds. Here’s how to go about this:

  1. Click the banners on this page to launch the website.

  2. Tap “signup,” and enter your phone number to receive a one-time PIN.

  3. Enter the PIN in the dedicated section.

  4. Fund your account and purchase packs.

Customer support

This is another area where Trove takes a hit. It doesn’t offer live chat, and you don’t get support through its social media pages. The only alternative is to email [email protected]. On the bright side, you can expect a response within an hour.

Is Trove safe and legit?

After a thorough look into Trove, I confirmed that it is secure and legitimate. It was founded by Michael Katz and is backed by leading venture capital firms such as Eniac Ventures. Every card is graded and verified through PSA, so you don’t have to guess the authenticity of what you’re getting. Plus, the platform publishes the odds of pulling different cards up front. For security, it uses SSL encryption and requires every user to complete KYC verification before it processes their first shipping request.

Trove is a worthwhile card rip platform

Trove secured a spot on my list of recommended digital mystery box sites, and this is thanks to several reasons. One is the availability of sports and TCG trading cards. As a fan of both worlds, I was happy to see a decent selection of packs, with prices starting at $25. The transparency of each pack is worth noting, as it gives you an idea of what to expect from a pull.

Although I did not find a conventional welcome bonus, I liked the 100% buyback that users get within minutes of every rip. This offers the opportunity to receive the full market value of your card, which comes in handy if you don’t like what you pulled.

As expected, Trove is not perfect. It lacks an Android app, supports only a few payment methods, and does not have live chat. However, it makes up for this with an intuitive website, easy withdrawal and shipping processes, and speedy email responses. Overall, I recommend you try out Trove if you’re a fan of sports and TCG trading cards. You can click the on-page banners to visit the site and register.
