No doubt you’ll have heard about 5 minute crypto markets. These quickfire event contracts are only available at one prediction market site at the moment, and they have become immensely popular in the short time since they were first introduced.
We’ll provide a short review of the Polymarket platform, and what it has on offer after we’ve discussed prediction markets generally, and explained the underlying concept of the contracts themselves. If you want to know what the current noise surrounding this type of trading is all about, you are definitely in the right place.
Prediction market platforms offer a specific type of trading product where you can predict the outcome of real world events. All event contracts have a value between $0.01 and $0.99, where winning contracts are settled at $1, or zero for incorrect predictions.
Rather than the prediction market brand itself, when you purchase event contracts, you are trading against other users, the site’s only involvement is providing the platform to do so.
Most event contracts are binary, meaning that they only have two possible outcomes. Some event contracts ask a question, with Yes or No options, while others have Over/Under, Up/Down, or similar options.
For each contract you’ll see two percentages, which total 100%. Each represents the implied probability of the event happening (or not) based on the opinion of all users who have purchased a contract.
In a scenario where Yes is 70%, and No is 30%, you can purchase a contract for $0.70, or $0.30, respectively. If your prediction is correct, your payout per contract is always $1. The difference is in the potential profit you make, depending on whether Yes or No was the outcome. Of course, if you were wrong, you forfeit the amount you initially invested.
There is no fundamental difference in the underlying concept of 5 minute markets, they work in exactly the same way as any other event contracts, they just have a much shorter lifespan. The only other noteworthy thing is that you will only find 5 minute markets for cryptos, and they are currently only offered by one prediction market brand, which is Polymarket.
In order to offer event contracts to retail traders, every prediction market site must comply with Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CTFC) regulations and be registered as a Designated Contract Market exchange. Under the current regulatory requirements, prediction markets are available in all 50 US states.
Polymarket is a CTFC-regulated trading exchange and is therefore able to offer contract events in all 50 US states. The brand offers thousands of contracts in various prediction market categories:
The brand is unique in that it is the only platform currently offering 5 minute crypto markets, which were first launched in February 2026. Within two weeks, Polymarket reported that trading activity for its 5 minute event contracts had overtaken 15 minute crypto markets in terms of trading volume.
Initially, Polymarket only offered these quickfire contracts for Bitcoin, but has since added a further five cryptocurrencies, which jointly generate a volume of around $60 million daily.
You can enjoy trading event contracts at Polymarket using the brand’s website, or by installing the iOS app. Android users will currently need to download an APK. You will be asked to enable location access whenever you use either of the brand’s prediction market apps because you can only trade at Polymarket when you are physically present in the US.
Notably, Polymarket upgraded its exchange stack to CLOB V2 on 28 April, 2026 in order to provide a more streamlined service. As a result of these changes to the underlying infrastructure, Polymarket also switched from USDC, to a new collateral trading token, Polymarket USD, aka pUSD.
Below is a table that gives you a quick overview of Polymarket.

An event contract is a type of trading product where you can predict the outcome of real world events. All event contracts have a value between $0.01 and $0.99, where winning contracts are settled at $1, or zero for incorrect predictions. They are described as binary contracts, because there are only two possible outcomes e.g. Yes/No, Up/Down, and so on.
Provided you are at least 18 years old you can sign up and trade contract events. There are several reliable prediction market platforms to choose from, just bear in mind that any site offering this trading instrument must be CDFC-regulated and operate as a Designated Contract Market exchange.
Polymarket currently offers event contracts for six leading cryptocurrencies: BTC, ETH, SOL, XRP, DOGE, BNB. For each of those coins you’ll find numerous event contracts available, which can last from just 5 minutes, up to a full year.
