On Thursday morning, Polymarket announced that it has joined forces with the developers of “Turf” to enhance the exchange’s in-game trading products including sports micro markets. The announcement continues a growing trend among prediction market platforms of improving features and design to compete in what is quickly becoming a crowded industry within the United States.
“Turf is joining Polymarket,” stated a post uploaded to Polymarket’s official X account on Thursday.
“Six people who spent a year building a real-time NFL prediction game: call the next play, the next drive, the next score… live alongside the broadcast. Beautifully designed & built by a team that already understood sports prediction markets. They’re now working across our US web & app. We’re a product-led company, and we’re always looking for people who make things this good. The goal is to build the best product, design, & engineering team in the world.”
Turf is an online service that launched earlier this year on the iTunes App Store. It provides users with a highly interactive way to predict NFL micro markets, such as “next play,” “next score,” and “next drive” forecasts.
Although Turf doesn’t have streaming rights that enable users to watch NFL games in-app, its users can simply adjust a separate streaming tab to follow along with the action. The result is an experience that lets users engage in live chat while the action is taking place.
Turf includes the ability for app users to participate in friendly competitions and leaderboard contests while they watch NFL games. The “acquihiring” of Turf’s development team suggests that Polymarket may expand Turf’s capability to include MLB, NFL, NBA, UFC, and games from other sports leagues that have yet to grant streaming rights to the exchange.
Initial feedback to Polymarket’s social media post has been positive, with users hailing the decision to bring Turf’s developers aboard as a smart move. However, Polymarket and other prediction exchanges remain firewalled from exclusive streaming rights for NFL games.
Polymarket users who wish to engage in “live trading” will still need to subscribe to a separate premium service that streams each league’s sports contests (or join a state-licensed sportsbook). The live-streaming features that licensed sportsbook apps provide their customers with represent a key “advantage” over prediction platforms in terms of creating a “one-stop shop” for interaction.
Recently, Novig became an official partner of the New York Mets in an “exclusive” deal that will see the exchange’s brand displayed prominently during home games. Polymarket has signed a similar agreement with the New York Yankees. However, neither deal grants streaming rights to the prediction market platforms.
Polymarket’s international exchange is not CFTC-regulated, but there are still a growing number of exchanges in the US due to the recent market entries by Underdog and Novig.
For now, Kalshi and Robinhood lead in terms of US-based prediction market share for federally regulated apps, but Underdog and Novig plan to close the trading volume gap during the upcoming 2026-27 NFL regular season.
