A Polymarket 15-minute market allows you to buy and sell event contracts for outcomes that occur within a 15-minute window. These are only available for crypto prediction markets due to the price volatility of these assets.
The most popular 15-minute markets are binary event contracts on whether the price of BTC or another cryptocurrency will go up or down within the next 15 minutes. Naturally, the prices of these event contracts are extremely volatile and subject to positive and negative slippage. As a result, we don’t recommend them for beginner prediction market traders.
15-minute prediction markets are fairly self-explanatory. These are markets that offer you the chance to buy or sell event contracts for outcomes that are released within a 15-minute time window.
Due to the short timeframe, these event contracts are only available for highly volatile markets, mostly Polymarket crypto predictions. You will notice that 15-minute event contracts change rapidly, often by the second.
You therefore have to act fast, and even then, you need to account for the price volatility, resulting in positive and negative slippage. As we said at the top of this article, we don’t recommend 15-minute prediction markets to beginners. A decent level of experience is definitely required here.
Before we take a more detailed look and provide some examples, here’s a summary of the pros and cons of these short-term prediction markets:
As we explained in our Polymarket review, one of the optimal things about the short-term markets on this prediction markets site is that it keeps things simple. All of the 15-minute markets are binary Up/Down markets, so you only have two event contract options to choose from.
You pick the “Up” option if you think that the price of BTC or whatever asset your prediction will rise, and “Down” if you believe it will fall. To make it clearer and give you a visual aid, here’s an example of a Polymarket 15-minute bitcoin market:
| 💲 Price to beat | ⬆ Up event contract | ⬇ Down event contract |
|---|---|---|
| $77,559.01 | $0.69 | $0.31 |
The example that we’ve used above shows the 15-minute BTC market as it looked at the time of writing. The prices that you can see for the “Up” and “Down” event contracts roughly reflect the chance of each outcome happening as a percentage:
The market will always open with each outcome at $0.50, and with a 50/50 chance of happening. However, as BTC is a volatile asset, you’ll notice that the price literally changes by the second in front of your eyes.
This makes it exciting, but definitely not suited to beginners. Moreover, due to the short timeframe, it’s difficult to protect your trades against positive and negative slippage with these markets.
The first thing that you need to buy and sell any event contracts on this prediction markets site is a fully verified account. You can create this with your email address, US phone number, photo ID, and your personal details, including full name, address, D.O.B, and SSN.
Once you’ve got that set up, this is how to browse and buy event contracts for a 15-min crypto market:
Log in to your Polymarket account
Navigate to the “Crypto” markets section
Select the “15 min” option from the sidebar
Choose the “15-minute crypto market you wish to buy event contracts for (e.g., BTC up or down 15 min)
Click the event contract that you want to buy “Up” or “Down.”
Set the maximum price you’re willing to pay to limit the order
Enter the number of contracts that you wish to buy
Submit the order
All orders at Polymarket are submitted via smart contract, which gives you two options:
The market will resolve to “Up” if the BTC price is over the target and “Down” if it is under. The value of the event contracts for the correct prediction will resolve to $1.00 and $0.00 for the incorrect.
If you have predicted the correct outcome, you’ll make a profit based on what you paid for the event contract. For example, if you had purchased “Down” contracts at $0.31 contracts and the market resolved to “Down”, you’d get $0.69 profit on each contract. However, if it resolves to “Up” you’d lose your entire outlay plus fees.
Polymarket 15-minute markets are only available on cryptocurrency due to the volatility of these decentralized assets. The price of BTC and other cryptos is subject to large spikes and drops, even within a short window of time. This simply wouldn’t work for FOREX currencies and stocks, as the value is highly unlikely to move within a 15-minute window.
The volatility of these short-term markets makes them extremely risky, but also leaves open the potential for high profits. Referring to the example we used above, that prediction market closed at “Down”, despite it having a 31% chance just a few minutes before closing.
Had you bought events contracts when “Down” was at $0.31, you’d have a high $0.69 per contract profit margin. On the flipside, if you’d bought $0.69 “Up” contracts due to the high 69% chance probability, you’d have incurred big losses.
As these prediction markets are volatile, they are heavily exposed to slippage. This is a term that refers to the difference between the expected price and the closing price. This can work both positively and negatively:
The 15-minute markets on this prediction markets site launch every 15 minutes, four times an hour, starting on the hour. For example, these are the four opening times you’d find:
The markets are available 24 hours, giving you 96 cycles of each 15-minute prediction market every day. If you’re looking for even quicker markets, there are Polymarket 5-minute markets available for crypto event contracts.
To summarize, the 15-minute prediction markets at Polymarket are binary event contracts where you predict if the value of a cryptocurrency will go up or down. If you think the price will finish above the target, you should buy “Up” contracts, and “Down” contracts if you think it will end below the target value.
These markets are extremely volatile and certainly not something we would recommend to beginners. The price fluctuations mean that you can just as easily lose a lot of money as make a high profit. If you’re new to the prediction market, you can register via the banners on this page. However, we recommend starting with simple prediction markets for sports games or similar events.
A 15-minute market is a prediction market that will close within a 15-minute time window. The most popular example is “Will BTC go up or down in 15 minutes?”.
You buy 15-minute event contracts by share or buy the amount of dollars that you wish to spend. You can also choose to either limit your order with a maximum closing price or buy instantly at the value being offered at the moment.
If your prediction is correct at the end of the 15-min cycle, your event contracts’ value will resolve to $1.00, giving you a profit. For example, if you purchased at $0.50 per share, you’d make a $0.50 profit per share, minus any fees you paid when executing the trade.
