Austrian Grand Prix

The 2026 Austrian Grand Prix main race is set for this Sunday at 3:00pm local time, as drivers navigate 71 laps of the 4.326-kilometer (2.7-mile) Red Bull Ring in Spielberg. With just 10 corners, this is the shortest lap on the Formula 1 calendar, coming in at just over 1 minute.

Red Bull Ring has a reputation for penalizing even the slightest driver maneuvering errors due to its heavy braking areas. The “Heat Hazard” warning will likely be in effect Sunday, which will enable drivers to wear cooling vests (which weigh about one pound) for the duration of the main race.

2026 Austrian Grand Prix Picks

This year’s Austrian Grand Prix has prediction market forecasters somewhat divided between “youth” and “experience.” The main race’s top contenders are teenager Andrea Kimi Antonelli of Italy and 41-year-old Lewis Hamilton of the United Kingdom. Kimi Antonelli drives for Mercedes-AMG Petronas while Hamilton is sponsored by Scuderia Ferrari. George Russell of the United Kingdom is a close third.

It’s a tough choice, but we’re taking the Kimi Antonelli “yes” option to win the 2026 Austrian Grand Prix main race at 32¢ per contract. We believe that the Heat Hazard conditions and heavy braking areas will favor the 19-year-old Italian driver, whose reaction times while navigating the curbs will create a distinct advantage.

Those who are going with Hamilton to win Sunday’s main race may be overpricing Hamilton’s victory in Barcelona, one that has been at least partially credited to engine upgrades that Ferrari has made. But those upgrades won’t apply nearly as much in the sections of the track that require very low speeds. This will make it difficult for the Englishman to prevent younger drivers from overtaking his position leading into the main stretches of the course.

Ironically enough, Lewis Hamilton made his Formula 1 debut in 2007… the year after Andrea Kimi Antonelli was born.

2026 Austrian Grand Prix Latest News

Spielberg, Austria, finds itself in the middle of a massive heat wave. The high temperature for Sunday is forecast to be around 90 degrees (or 32 degrees Celsius). Since Formula 1 cars don’t come with traditional air conditioning systems, drivers can opt to wear a cooling vest that contains liquid coolant that acts more like a refrigerator than a vent.

Drivers who choose not to wear a cooling vest this Sunday will be forced to have a 0.5-kilogram ballast weight bolted inside the cockpit (to balance out the weight). As we’ve seen in recent years, technology is playing a larger role in Formula 1 races and inserting itself into previously minute facets of each race.

2026 Austrian Grand Prix Market Movement

The “winners” market on Kalshi for the Main Race has already attracted hundreds of thousands in total trading volume. You can expect that number to increase into the seven-figure realm by the time drivers start their engines this Sunday afternoon local time.

The per-contract prices for both Kimi Antonelli and Hamilton have dipped ever-so-slightly since the market opened a few days ago. This has benefitted the odds for George Russell to pull off an upset, but that trade has also remained relatively steady since opening.

The 2026 Austrian Grand Prix will be streamed for free if you have Apple TV. No premium subscription is required to watch the full race if you’re located in the United States because Apple TV has designated this race as a promotional broadcast to entice viewers to subscribe to the $12.99/month premium service.
