On Monday, June 29th, 128 women will form part of the 2026 Wimbledon ladies’ singles tournament at the All England Club in London. This year will represent the 139th running of the lone grass-court grand slam event.
The official “traditional” use of “ladies’” (as opposed to “women’s”) tournament isn’t the only thing that separates Wimbledon from the other three grand slams this year. Trading volume is currently hotter than the London weather as prediction market sports forecasters debate which competitor is the most likely to win the ladies’ tournament.
Yes, this year’s ladies’ singles field is extremely competitive. One quick glance at the current Kalshi odds shows that traders are divided over who might win the championship. This means that the right picks come down to price.
Due to this reality, we’re going with defending champion Iga Świątek of Poland to repeat on the courts she dominated in 2025. She may be listed as the “number 4” contender on the Kalshi market for the ladies’ singles winner, but her price of 10¢ is too low to pass up. At just 25 years old, she also holds a slight age advantage over the other top contenders.
We’re also likely to pick up a few contracts on Elena Rybakina (who represents Kazakhstan), who is now trading at 12¢ per contract with over $100,000 in cumulative market trading volume. Traders should pass on the #1 seed in this tournament, in our view. Aryna Sabalenka is too expensive at 23 cents “to win.”
There’s a lot of media analysis surrounding the recent performances of both the #1 and #2 ranked players. Rybakina’s full strength following a hip injury has yet to be tested in a grass-court grand slam that’s prone to high humidity and weather delays. Her 2026 struggles on grass are well documented, which is probably one of the main reasons her price has dropped low enough to make her a value pick.
And then there’s Aryna Sabalenka, who admits she went into a “deep, dark hole” in her epic French Open quarterfinal collapse against Diana Shnaider. Sabalenka may be the world’s #1 women’s tennis player, but will need to prove the critics wrong following her consultations with a psychologist in the aftermath of Roland-Garros.
Świątek is the best choice and is looking to become the first ladies’ champion to repeat at Wimbledon since Serena Williams. The lawn should assist her in that endeavor due to its tendency to grant strategic advantages to fast-paced, hard-hitting players.
Understandably, Aryna Sabalenka’s odds for winning the tournament have dropped since the Kalshi market opened earlier this month. Similar to other competitive athletic sports, women’s tennis requires immense mental fortitude over the course of each 3-set match, despite the final set format that imposes a traditional tie-breaker at 6-6 being implemented in 2022.
Rain delays are commonplace at Wimbledon, and the forced “down time” could wreak havoc on Sabalenka’s mental state if she hasn’t recovered from the French Open. Expect the media to be all over the potential issue if Sabalenka runs into any trouble during the early rounds of the tournament.
