The Azerbaijan Grand Prix is one of Formula 1’s most highly anticipated events of the year. It will take place this weekend in Baku, with the main race starting on Saturday due to the national holiday (Day of Remembrance) on Sunday, September 27th.
Prediction markets already have a frontrunner in mind for this weekend: Andrea Kimi Antonelli of Italy. Racing fans in the United States can catch all the action from Baku early Saturday morning with an Apple TV subscription.
Kimi Antonelli has been nothing short of sensational in his second season as a Formula 1 driver. He sits atop the 2026 World Drivers’ Championship standings with 292 points, with two F1 victories so far this month (the Spanish Grand Prix and the Italian Grand Prix).
Driving for Mercedes, the 20-year-old appears to be a virtual “lock” to dominate racing for years to come. He’s also listed at 43¢ per contract to win this Saturday, a testament to just how confident racing forecasters are in his ability given the fact that there will be 22 total drivers competing in the main race.
Antonelli’s only serious competition, as far as prediction markets are concerned, is Lando Norris, who had a potential hat trick snatched away at the last minute in Madrid due to unfortunate VSC (Virtual Safety Car) timing. Still, it’s hard for us to go against Kimi Antonelli at this point.
The Baku City Circuit is a high-speed venue that features a flat-out section of more than two kilometers. However, the course is also known for its extremely narrow “Old Town” castle section that demands pinpoint precision as drivers navigate the 51-lap race.
Overall, the forecast for Baku this Saturday is dry, with highs in the low 80s Fahrenheit to accompany a light northern breeze. The total length of Saturday’s main race will be approximately 190 miles (or 306 kilometers). In short, the weather shouldn’t play a factor this weekend.
Lando Norris’ recent qualifying performances have caused some prediction market traders to boost his contract price in anticipation of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix main race. So far, this Kalshi market has attracted just under $300,000 in total trading activity, but that number will rise above $1 million between now and Saturday morning Eastern Time.
Traders will likely start refreshing the Kalshi interface every few seconds once the main race begins to see if there are any significant fluctuations in contract prices. For this reason, we recommend keeping a close eye on bid-ask prices during the early laps of the race to pick up any contracts that become conveniently priced during the opening 15 minutes of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
