The Boston Red Sox started the 2025-26 MLB season with a record of 10 wins versus 17 losses. The organization promptly decided to “shake up” its dugout directors by firing manager Alex Cora along with five members of his coaching staff.
Fast-forward a month and a half and the team has improved its prospects ever so slightly. Boston is playing .500 ball under interim manager Chad Tracy. However, the team still finds itself in the cellar of the American League East. Can the Red Sox reverse their fortunes in June? And most importantly, does Chad Tracy have what it takes to lead Boston to a more competitive posture?
Simply put, Polymarket forecasters are moving the line for the “next Boston Red Sox manager” northwards. Entering a three-game home series against the underperforming Orioles, the 2018 World Series champs find themselves a dozen games out of first place.
This hasn’t phased the minds of traders, however. The current line for Chad Tracy remaining on board as the Red Sox Manager is 29¢ per contract. And while that doesn’t necessarily represent a glowing endorsement, the former Triple-AAA skipper is polling leaps and bounds over the other contenders for the permanent job.
Trailing behind Tracy in a distant second is ex-Chicago Cubs manager David Ross. According to Polymarket account holders, he has a 10% chance of overcoming the odds and taking over the Boston Red Sox. Following behind in third is Andrew Bailey at 9¢ per contract, with Rocco Baldelli and Omar López tied for fourth place at 6 percent.
We predict that Chad Tracy will eventually be named the “permanent” manager for the Boston Red Sox before the All-Star break. As long as Boston can at least partially claw back from its 12-game deficit in the division, Tracy’s status is likely to be upgraded.
Lots of trading volume has been put forth on Polymarket to back an official nod for Chad Tracy. In late May, he was all the way down to 32% upon being swept by the Twins and dropping two-of-three games against the Atlanta Braves. But winning changes everything.
Boston closed out its series against the Guardians with a pair of victories, sending Tracy’s stock soaring. Which leads us to our pick for who will become the next Red Sox manager.
June marks a pivotal month for the Red Sox, who will play at least one series against every other team in the AL East by month’s end. If ever there was a time to prove one’s ability to succeed, Tracy is in the right spot to do so.
If Boston can go 17-10 over the course of their 27 games in June, they’d improve 42-43 overall at the midway point of the 2025-26 MLB season. That may not seem all that impressive, but remember that Tracy took over at a point when Boston had a win-loss record of 10-17.
A 42-43 record entering July would, according to current NL East standings, put the Red Sox in third place and within reach of contending for a postseason bid. The All-Star break doesn’t begin until July 10th, which would give the organization a timely opportunity to remove “interim” from Chad Tracy’s official title. The All-Star week is also notable because the MLB Draft will be held on July 11th.
