U.S. House of Representatives

Despite significant redistricting efforts led by the Republican Party, forecasters on Kalshi are projecting that the Democrats have an 84% chance to recapture control of the House of Representatives following the midterm general elections in November.

The latest data available on the Kalshi prediction market app includes $22.8 million in notional trading volume since the market opened in late 2024. While the 84¢ per-contract price for Democrats to win the House may seem a bit pricey, they only have to pick up a few seats overall to erase the GOP’s current razor-thin margin in the lower chamber.

2026 Control of the US House of Representatives Picks

The out-of-power headwinds seem to be increasingly affecting the Republican Party’s prospects of holding on to control of the House of Representatives. All 435 House seats will be up for grabs in November, with 37 Republican incumbents retiring as of now.

While we don’t necessarily think the 84¢ per-contract price is a value-based pick for professional traders, we do believe it’s very likely that Democrats will indeed regain control of the House once the new members have been sworn in early next year. What we’re truly hoping for is a price on the Democrats to win control of the House that’s in the high 70-cent range, but we may not get that between now and the midterm general elections.

Those banking on a Republican surprise in the form of a November “red wave” will need the Republican Party to buck the in-power reprisal trend that has dominated the past few decades. Once the dust has settled, we believe the Democrats will have control of the House along with a new lease on lower-chamber legislative power that the party has sorely missed since January 2023.

President Donald Trump’s dwindling approval ratings, the ongoing conflict with Iran, the ambiguous Strait of Hormuz status, the economy, and other nagging domestic pains are all contributing to the Democrats’ chances to regain power in the House as a result of November’s midterm elections.

The Republican-led redistricting efforts in several key states may ward off a complete November beatdown, but the party’s messaging is divided following the primary election defeats of three political stalwarts: Jon Cornyn of Texas, Thomas Massie of Kentucky, and Bill Cassidy of Louisiana.

Those primary losses aren’t expected to impact the outcome for control of the House (only Massie is a Representative and his seat is expected to be retained by Republican Ed Gallrein). However, Trump’s disdain for those established political veterans within his own party has arguably widened the Democrats’ perceived gap over the Republican to claim the House.

2026 Control of the US House of Representatives Market Movement

In previous midterm elections, forecasters would have leaped at the opportunity to pick up contracts on the Republican Party winning control of the House at 16 cents. Value seekers who currently hold the Democratic side of this year’s trade will need more Republican believers for the premium price to drop, though.

If you’re in the United States and want to predict which party will win control of the House of Representatives in the 2026 midterm elections, you can join Kalshi now and start trading in five minutes upon registering your new account.
