Will Valencia add to his goalscoring tally?
Ivory Coast’s direct play could cause trouble for Ecuador
Kalshi prediction markets still view Ecuador as slight favorites
Ivory Coast takes on Ecuador in the second Group E fixture of the 2026 World Cup, and we’ve been focusing on how this one could play out. Although overlooked as possible World Cup winners, both teams are packed with talent.
The “Golden Generation” of Ecuador is upon us, and we are interested to see how Caicedo, Pacho, and Hincapie fare against the strong, direct approach of AFCON quarter-finalists, Ivory Coast. With Germany dubbed likely group winners, this fixture has quickly come to be seen as a potential second-place decider, but with help from Kalshi, we’ve checked things out further.
The road to the World Cup has been fairly solid for both Ivory Coast and Ecuador. Ecuador head to the US off the back of three wins and two draws from their last five matches, and Ivory Coast come in with four wins and a loss at the hands of Egypt in the AFCON quarter-finals.
The Ivory Coast won convincingly over Scotland (1-0), thrashed South Korea (4-0), and had an impressive 2-1 victory over the tournament favorites, France. For Ecuador, a 3-0 win against Guatemala, a 2-1 win against Saudi Arabia, and a 2-0 win against New Zealand may not quite stack up against Ivory Coast’s opponents, but you also have to note that Ecuador’s draws came against strong Netherlands and Morocco teams.
Although friendlies leading up to the World Cup rarely show the full potential of what to expect on the grandest soccer stage of them all, both Ecuador and Ivory Coast have primed themselves against World Cup-ready opponents. With such competitive results, it is unsurprising to see the profile of these nations rise, and Kalshi’s World Cup prediction markets have reflected this.
Although Ecuador head into the World Cup having scored 9 goals in their last 5 matches, they are historically better known for their clean sheets and low-scoring affairs. Often, this is thanks to veteran striker Enner Valencia, who notched up 6 goals in 15 qualifying matches.
Although Valencia still leads the way up top, Ecuador now finds itself in a fantastic position with strength all over the park. Considered the golden generation, names like Caicedo, Hincapie, and Pacho set the foundations, offering a strong defensive line and creative midfield that is more than capable of keeping out tough opponents and finding space to counter.
The counter, however, is something that Ivory Coast will be more than happy to implement themselves. Diallo, Fofana, and Sangare are just a few names that are able to cause problems on the break, and they will be relying on Ndicka to keep Ecuador’s Valencia at bay on the defensive side.
Of course, poor World Cup performances from Ivory Coast could lead to a more reserved approach than usual on the opening day, and for this reason, we understand why Kalshi views Ecuador as the slight favorites.
According to Kalshi, Ecuador has a 41% chance of winning ahead of this exciting Group E fixture. A tie follows closely at 34%, and the Ivory Coast are deemed slight underdogs at 28%. We also found a few additional markets that could be worth considering.
Although Kalshi prediction markets are considering Ecuador as slight favorites ahead of this one, we would suggest doing a little extra digging before entering the market. We anticipate Ivory Coast to be a little more reserved than usual to avoid a repeat early exit from the competition; however, they have more than enough talent to cause an upset on gameday. In the interim, why not check our latest review of Kalshi to get a real feel for the site ahead of kick-off?
