Algeria and Jordan have had poor starts to the World Cup, and will both be looking for a glimmer of hope with a win in this upcoming Group J clash. With some assistance from Kalshi prediction markets, we plan to give you a breakdown of what to expect on the night.
Algeria vs. Argentina was closer than the final scoreline would suggest; however, it is clear that there is work to do in the final third.
A Messi hat-trick led to a 3-0 loss for the Algerians, but the overall possession was fairly even throughout the ninety minutes. The difference doesn’t just revolve around a clinical Argentinian front line; it was that they managed to do something with their possession and conjure up chance after chance. Algeria ended up with 0 shots on target – a problem that has occurred for the national team in a few recent matches against elite opponents.
Unfortunately, it isn’t the loss alone that now hinders Algeria’s potential; it is the fact that they are fighting their way out of a three-goal deficit. Even with a win over Jordan, the match against Austria will be tough, and they will be in desperate need of a win to qualify. If not, and they finish third, they could miss out on goal difference alone. Of course, that is to say that they beat Jordan – who aren’t to be completely written off just yet.
Jordan vs. Austria was equally as close on paper, and Olwan managed to get on the scoresheet for Jordan’s first-ever goal in a World Cup competition.
Of course, Jordan has been hit with injuries going into the group stages, which is tough for any national team. Unfortunately, losses like Smeeri (RB), Al-Naimat (ST), and the young star Sabri (ST), are always going to hit a team of Jordan’s caliber a little harder than a team with greater depth, like Argentina or France.
That said, Jordan held their own in the opening against Austria, and we think that they will put up a convincing fight against the Algerians. Jordan moved quickly on the attack, and Algeria’s defense looked sluggish, which could see an opportunity for Olwan to double his tally early doors.
Should Jordan win, we can’t see them making a major upset against Argentina, but it could be enough to see them in third-place play-off position. Like Algeria, however, that 3-1 loss against Austria and a potential high-scoring affair against Argentina could see them fall at the final hurdle.
With a quick recap of the story so far, we wasted little time checking out the latest from Kalshi’s World Cup prediction markets. Here, we soon found that Algeria are tipped as the current favorites with a 61% chance. A tie is then set at 23%, and the market sees Jordan with just a 16% chance of taking the win.
In our opinion, things are much tighter than the market suggests, so we soon took a closer look at some Kalshi prop predictions for you to consider.
Based on game day one, Algeria looks shaky at the back and lacks any firepower up top, but does hold possession well. While Jordan aren’t on the same level as Argentina, Ali Olwan has already proven that a little space in the box is all it takes to cause some damage.
Either way, an Algeria or Jordan win would lead to a very interesting end to Group J. We would just be interested to see how the first 15 minutes plays out before casting any judgment. With this in mind, rather than selecting an outright prediction market, we’ve picked out some props for you to consider. All you need to do is click on the links on this page to get yourself started.
