As combo trades continue to settle, this past weekend’s 3M Open PGA Tour event is set to achieve $175 million in notional trading volume on Kalshi, the country’s most popular prediction market platform.
Auburn University standout Jackson Koivun, who turned pro one month ago, claimed the $1,584,000 first-place prize at the 3M Open, ending the final day at 25-under par. FedexCup leader Scottie Scheffler was impressive, but couldn’t complete the comeback Sunday. He claimed $959,200 for second place, finishing at 22-under par at TPC Twin Cities.
Jackson Koivun’s recent decision to forgo his senior year at Auburn University and turn pro has already proven to be extremely lucrative. In just his third PGA Tour start, Koivun showed remarkable poise in maintaining his lead over the world’s No. 1 golfer, Scottie Scheffler, throughout Sunday’s final round.
Had Koivun not declared himself as a pro following his “low amateur” performance at the US Open at Shinnecock Hills, he would have been denied a portion of the prize pool and would have only received the event’s official trophy.
Koivun’s price going into the first round was under 3¢ per contract. His “yes” option for winning the 3M Open remained under 10¢ per contract going into Saturday’s third-round action. Kalshi traders who picked up his contracts before Sunday were in for a treat by the time Koivun sank his final putt of the event.
The 2026 PGA Tour Rocket Classic at Detroit Golf Club begins this Thursday, as players jockey for FedExCup Standings position. Once the Rocket Classic and Wyndham Championship have concluded, all players outside of the top 70 places in the FedExCup will be eliminated from contention.
While Scottie Scheffler is a near lock to win the enormous $23 million payout for being atop the FedExCup Standings at the end of the regular season, there are numerous, well-known golfers who need impressive performances in the next two weeks in order to remain in the race. Both Jason Day and Keegan Bradley, who are positioned 72nd and 73rd, respectively, will need to make a move between now and August 9th to stay in contention.
In spite of his thrilling performance in Blaine, Minnesota, Jackson Koivun is currently available on Kalshi for just 4.1 cents per contract to win the upcoming Rocket Classic in Detroit. If you’re a bargain trader who believes the 21-year-old will continue his hot streak this weekend, Koivun will be a solid purchase.
Scottie Scheffler won’t be competing this weekend. His dominant lead in the FedExCup allows him the luxury of resting in preparation for the playoffs. This means that the top forecast for Kalshi’s Rocket Classic winner market is Cameron Young at just 8¢ per contract.
Only one hole this weekend will have water in play. The Detroit Golf Club is expected to host another PGA Tour “birdie-fest” leading up to the Wyndham Championship.
