For the first time since March, Hendrick Motorsports driver Kyle Larson has regained the prediction market lead for the most likely candidate to win the 2026 NASCAR Cup Series Championship. With more than $5 million traded on prediction market apps like Kalshi, Larson’s contract prices are now listed at 44¢ each.
Correspondingly, Denny Hamlin’s per-contract price has fallen from 55¢ on August 16th all the way down to just 34¢. Hamlin’s runner-up expectation could mean that the 45-year-old Chesterfield, Virginia, native remains “the best driver never to win a championship” for another season.
Kyle Larson extended his lead over Denny Hamlin at Kansas Speedway this past weekend. Showing dominant form, Larson led nearly 90% of the 267 total laps. He now enjoys a 26-point, multi-race lead that could be further extended this coming weekend in Las Vegas.
If Larson holds on to his lead, he will claim his second consecutive NASCAR Cup Series Championship Trophy along with a team prize that is expected to exceed $10 million.
There are still six races remaining in the NASCAR Cup Series Championship. The fifth postseason race will include a touching throwback tribute to the late Kyle Busch this Sunday. Busch, a hometown hero to Las Vegas racing fans, was stricken by a sudden case of pneumonia and passed away unexpectedly on May 21st at the age of 41.
Grandstand tickets for the fifth Chase race (the South Point 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway), available through Ticketmaster, currently range from $110 to $150. Weekend packages that include the Xfinity Series race are also available.
Despite his months-long lead in prediction markets, Joe Gibbs Racing driver Denny Hamlin finds himself in familiar territory, apparently destined for another championship disappointment. At 45 years of age, Hamlin is running out of time to win his first NASCAR Cup Series Championship. He has been in serious contention to win the championship a total of seven times, dating back to 2006.
Contrary to last year’s elimination-style format, NASCAR’s revival of the “Chase” could benefit Hamlin due to his clear driving record. However, he’s already relinquished the 25-point lead he earned to begin the Chase. He has finished runner-up twice, including last season.
Racing fans have already marked the weekend of November 6th-8th. The Homestead-Miami Speedway will be the site of the NASCAR Cup Series Championship’s final race. If a single driver holds more than a 60-point lead over his competitors, the official Trophy and first-place prize money will already be locked up before Sunday, November 8th.
