The Milwaukee Brewers did what they had to do: win both games at home to start the NLCS against the back-to-back defending champions, the Los Angeles Dodgers. Now, the Brewers have a chance to put a chokehold on this series with a 3-0 lead if they can get it done in Game 3 at Dodger Stadium.
The Dodgers have their backs against the wall, but we can never count out this superteam, even with Shohei Ohtani struggling at the plate as he plays through injury. Los Angeles has the major pitching advantage with Blake Snell over Robert Gasser, but will that be enough to get them a win here?
Let’s take a closer look at prediction markets to see where the best trades are for this pivotal matchup.
The Dodgers are priced at 62 cents to win this game. This makes a lot of sense because they’re at home with the edge on the mound in a must-win game. Traders are asking themselves, “Do we really think that the Dodgers will go down 3-0 in this series?”
With Robert Gasser pitching for the Brewers, there’s an inexperienced lefty getting the call. The market seems to believe that this could be a tough spot for him. On the other side, Blake Snell has been terrific for the Dodgers, putting up a 1.90 ERA in 42.2 innings in an injury-plagued season.
With that said, I’m avoiding taking a side here because the Dodgers’ bats are ice-cold, especially Shohei Ohtani.
Instead, I’m going with Under 7.5, which is priced at 52 cents. There are a lot of reasons why this one could turn into a low-scoring game.
For one, Robert Gasser has quietly been highly effective of late, allowing one earned run or fewer in six of his last seven outings. In Gasser’s lone postseason start, he allowed one earned run on three hits in four innings against a red-hot Padres lineup.
On top of that, with both teams having a day off on Monday, each bullpen is completely fresh. That means high-leverage relievers on both sides will be available, including Abner Uribe, Trevor Megill, Tanner Scott, and Edwin Diaz.
While Blake Snell struggled in his only postseason so far, issuing five walks in only 3.2 innings, he’s a highly experienced pitcher who is no stranger to the big moment. Look for Snell to turn in a quality outing in this spot.
We saw a low-scoring Game 1 with a 3-1 result. I like the chances of a similar scoreline in Game 3.
In looking at MLB prediction markets, we see that there has been limited movement on this Brewers vs Dodgers game so far. The Dodgers were 63 cents on Oct. 11, but that price has moved marginally to 62 cents. The prudent move would be to buy into the Under 7.5 runs, with both teams having fresh bullpens.
