The Philadelphia 76ers are off to a terrific start, winning seven of their first eight games despite significant roster turnover. You would have thought that it would take some time for the team to integrate Jaylen Brown and LeBron James into the offense, but that hasn’t been the case at all.
Up next is a tough matchup on the road against the Detroit Pistons (6-1). Last year’s No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference is picking up right where they left off. This is clearly a group that has terrific chemistry. The pieces fit in well together.
Tip-off is at 7 p.m. ET on Wednesday, November 4th at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit. With that in mind, let’s take a look at the best prediction markets to find the top prices for 76ers vs. Pistons.
The Pistons are priced at 55 cents to win this game. The point spread is Pistons -2.5, priced at 52 cents. This makes sense because they’re at home. However, with Detroit only as slight favorites, the market is telling you that they view the Sixers has the stronger team.
The Over/Under is currently listed at 219.5 points, with the Under at 51 cents. This is a really low number for an NBA game these days, which speaks volumes to me.
I’m going with Under 219.5 at 51 cents here. This number is so low for good reason.
For one, the 76ers are currently 3rd in Defensive Rating. They’ve held opponents to 107 points or fewer in three consecutive games. On top of that, Philly is 18th in Pace, so they prefer to slow down the tempo. Conversely, the Pistons are 1st in Defensive Rating and 25th in Pace.
So here we have to elite defensive teams that prefer to slow down the game. That’s the ideal game environment for a low-scoring matchup.
It’s also worth noting that these teams already met this season. Back on Oct. 25, the Pistons won 106-93 for a combined total of 199, which is still comfortably below tonight’s 219.5 number. To that end, we’ll go with Under 219.5 here.
When looking at movement at NBA prediction markets, we see that the Sixers were once 53% favorites, back on Nov. 3 at 7 AM ET. However, that has moved significantly towards the Pistons, who are now 55%. This makes sense because Detroit already has a double-digit win against Philadelphia this season. But even with that, I prefer to ride with the Under in this spot because these are two elite defensive teams.
