After a close loss in Game 1, the Atlanta Dream are now favored over the Golden State Valkyries to win the WNBA Championship after securing a huge road win in Game 2.
It was another stellar defensive effort by the Dream, as they held the Valkyries to only 65 points on 34% shooting. Angel Reese had a monster game for Atlanta, dropping 30 points with 16 rebounds while going 10-of-16 from the field.
With the series heading to Atlanta, the Dream have all the momentum right now. But is it enough to buy into them to win the WNBA Championship? Let’s dive into the best prediction markets to find out.
The Dream are priced at 56 cents to win the WNBA Championship. This is the market reacting to an impressive 14-point win in Game 2. Atlanta also held a lead heading into the fourth quarter in Game 1, so the market believes that they’ve been the better team so far.
Atlanta will now have home-court advantage for the next two games. They’ll be favored to win in each of those matchups, so the price definitely makes sense. But this has still been a closely contested series, meaning that buying high on the Dream at a peak price may not be the best course of action.
If you like the Dream to win the WNBA Championship, it’s better to just target them on a game-by-game basis rather than looking at the series price now that it’s tied 1-1 and they have home-court advantage. The value on the Dream is lost now. It would have been better to buy into them when they were trailing 1-0 in the series.
I’m not ready to count out the Valkyries just yet. This is a team that made 10.4 three-pointers per game during the regular season, but they’ve only hit seven threes in each of the two games so far. If a couple more of those long-distance shots start falling, the series could swing in their direction.
That’s why I’m buying into the Valkyries to win the series at 43 cents. If they can steal one of these games on the road, they’d likely become favored once again when the series goes back to California. At that point, you can sell early for a modest profit or stick with the Valkyries.
We can check prediction markets apps to see significant market movement on WNBA Champion. Before the series started, Golden State was at 51.2% and Atlanta at 48.5%. After Game 1, the Valkyries jumped to 65.2% with the Dream at 38.6%. Now that the Dream tied the series, they’re listed at 57% with the Valkyries at 43%. As you can see here, the market on WNBA Champion is extremely volatile. That’s why buying low on the Valkyries is the prudent move.
